Question is... What the hell are they doing @ Toyota??? From safety leaders to safety failures? Why the inconsistency in quality??? Toyota lead the way from 1985-2002 and then???? First the loss of all viable sports cars. Then sterilizing the drive feel and performance of all Toyota's. Now they are going back to being unsafe vehicles, a reputation from the 70's. Talk about taking 5 steps forward and 10 steps back.

They grew to fast and lost focus quickly and cut corners.

Agreed. Too much focus on cost cutting and chasing #1 automaker in the world.

In that crash the dash board and steering wheel shifted so far up and to the right that the driver's head glances off the edge of the airbag and smashes into the dash.

It's really only marginally better than Chinese car crash performance.

It was too grounded to the ground :icon17:

There hasn't been a Toyota I've wanted to own since 1996. I honestly wouldn't touch a Recent toyota or honda with a 10 foot pole. I'd rather shop Hyundai/Kia as foreign alternatives. (If i were even in that market for a car)

m4a1mustang 12-28-2012 09:01 AM

I'd touch a FT86 but that's not a pure bred Toyota.

I feel the same way as you. Supra was the last Yota I cared about.

OK I lied, I like the older Tacomas. Not the new ones. But that's it.

I would touch an FT only if they got there $$$$ values right. This car as it is right now is NOT worth entertaining the thought of spending nearly $30k. If the max pricerange on these were $23-26k? I'd be pondering the car. @ nearly $30k... I laugh. :icon18:

for the price they ask now? The car should at least have a BBK, better rims and tires

A. No. While one or two models will employ Mercedes technology, our main powertrain will be a Nissan developed direct injection engine based on the current VQ series engine block, but with a totally redesigned head unit. We will only use a four-cylinder diesel from Mercedes."

"Q. And what about that high performance model you mentioned?

A. I thought you might ask about that. We have an all-new engine in the pipeline that will only be built in Japan, as it requires specialized production methods only available here. It is a totally new 3.7-liter direct injection, twin-turbocharged V-6 that is being built for our new IPL (Infiniti Performance Line) range of high-performance vehicles. Targeting the likes of the C63 AMG and M3, it will generate upwards of 530 hp."

"Q. What about pricing? Won't this IPL be expensive?

A. The 530-hp IPL-spec G will probably be priced at around the same price as the GT-R if not a fraction more. Given that the basic C63 AMG costs (in Japan) around 10 million yen, that is where the IPL will be priced, I feel."

- The last one sums it up...we are NOT getting a twin charged engine for the Z unless they bump the price by $20k

Oops. I guess I should have read a little more of the article lol. I stand corrected. There is mention of a supercharged QR25 in there. Granted its fwd but it could be the Z motor if Nissan decides to downsize the Z and put a rwd variant in there.

I'm inclined to agree, but costs on everything fun have gone through the roof...look at what the Z is selling for now.

25k is the new 20k

Only problem their is that as far as salaries go, today's $65k is yesterday's $75k. while prices are going up, jobs do not give adequate cost of living raises as compared to the time. The Z I agree is overpriced. I still don't understand how a fully loaded tour/sport nav costs more than $41k today. In 2009, It didn't look to me as being a car worth more than $36k. There's about a $3k premium, automatically built into these sports cars and its pretty unfair. But what can you do??? At the end you can only choose which car you will allow to rape your wallet.

Yeah $30k is ridic! Under $25k for a loaded BRZ would be more appealing.

I guess the rims and sleekness to the body that guys like don't offer much in the way of safety.
