Car not starting

I have done some research but none of it seems to match up to mine.
It recognizes the key is in the car, but the car wont even turn to "ACC" or "ON"
The steering wheel doesn't seem to be locked, i can turn the wheel no problem, but it seems as if it is showing all the signs of the steering wheel lock issue that is present in the 09, which is the year model that i have.
The windows are slowly going down each time i close the door, but I cant roll them back up.

About to call tow company to take it to Nissan but i wanted to see if anyone has any pointers that i should try before spending money, my car is no longer under warranty.

The locking pin may not have retracted completely or the switch contacts are dirty. While the ignition is on, rap on the SLU a few times and try starting the car. Rinse and repeat as necessary. See other threads regarding the procedure for details.

Not sure about the windows. Try the reset procedure - hold both switches down for 5 sec and then up for 5 sec.

Maybe the root cause is a bad battery or something else that allowed the control module to lose it's memory.

Car Battery?

How much voltage is showing up on the guage?

How far down does it drop when you try to roll the windows up?

Nothing turns on in the car what so ever. No radio, no meter readings, lights don't turn on. But the fuel screen does show the key sensor once the key is inserted into the slot.
Before this situation happened; i drove my car from once parking spot to another, to one closer to my house, went inside for about 5 minuets, then went out again to start my car and now nothing works.
I dont see how the battery could die within 5 mins.

short trips on weak battery will drain it.

Would it be worth taking to Autozone for a battery test before I get it towed to Nissan?
I hooked it up to cables and let it sit for a while but nothing turned on at all, I will try it again later once I get out of class.

This seems like a dead battery, either try to jump start it or take it to Auto Zone, or O' Rileys. I would do that first a trip to the stealership will be costly for you to find out it was just the battery.

what u just described is the exact symptoms my car had when my steering lock failed... just cause you can turn the wheel doesn't mean it didn't die.

welcome to the club, i just shelled out 1119 minus tow bill tuesday :ughdance:

I would venture to guess that it is the steering lock. Try and turn your headlights on and see if they fire up, and also see if the interior lights turn on, that will prove if the batttery is dead or not..

New battery and no change at all. Looks like its a trip to the dealership to fix the steering wheel lock.

kidkotic2001 12-06-2012 03:52 PM

Damn another one bits the dust, Before taking it to the dealer I would try doing the hit it till you cant no more method and see if it gets it unlocked and then remove the fuse. Unless you have warranty then let the dealer handle it.

^This, it's worth a try. The lock is already dead and you're out of warranty, so whats the worst that could happen? You save $1200+

LMBmikeZ 12-06-2012 04:52 PM

:iagree: try hitting the steering lock unit while trying to start the car and see if you can get it to fire up then pull that damn fuse, cut the wire or buy the harness so you can bypass that stupid unit!
