There should be some kind of alert or letter sent to anyone who owns an 09 or 10 to alert them of this problem so we could save a lot of ppl of this headache even if its just on here when they join as soon as you do an immediate warning about this damn steering lock and how to disable the p.o.s

I don't know how much trouble it would be to add a warning/link to the "Welcome to The370Z" e-mail/PM, but it looks good on paper.

even some of the 2011's have the lock problem to though :ugh2: it was not until at some point in 2011 when they stopped putting the steering lock in OEM all together!

2009 to 2011 we got the great steering locks and they( 2012 and newer) got an oil cooler .

Has anyone taken their car to a dealership and got this fixed for free while out of warranty?

Z-Girl 12 12-06-2012 09:21 PM

That sucks...the steering lock mess should have been a recall. Not right Nissan.

I don't remember reading about anyone getting it done for free when out of warranty, but my memory isn't what it used to be.

But they'll never say yes if you don't ask. They can't shoot you for asking and you might get lucky. Ask more than one dealer - some are more lax about the rules than others. Just don't hold your breath. ;)

Yea I did but I was only 2 weeks out of warranty. I got them to agree to cover the repair before they knew what it was.

One or two guys who were very recently out of warranty got their dealerships to do the fix as a good will gesture. They may have had to pay the cost of the tow.

mine was well out of warranty, i asked if nissan would cover it and the service person just giggled

I thought this was a recall but similar to the trunk springs issues.. If someone brought it in they would fix it free but they wouldn't just go replace any and everyone's that didn't have a problem yet.

I'd love to hear what the final verdict was. I imagine it was the lock and that the dealer didn't do it for free outside of the warranty. What did it end up costing?

What happen? I never saw this thread and I'm very interested because my car also suffer from this just a week ago. I have to pay $1100 for the repair.

Nissan come on! We need to go public! YouTube, News, Call Curtis, etc

It's not fair for drivers who will have this happen to them in the near future.
