My 350z was vandalized last night :/

On Friday night I ran out of gas 3 streets below from where I live around 2 in the morning. Everyone that has a 350z knows there fuel gauges are wacky and it said I had "36" miles left till fill up but I guess not. So I just parked the car at the church where I rolled into and walked home. I was really tired so I was just going to get gas the next day with my brother. He didn't get off work till pretty late so I went with my friend after a party we went to. When I got to the car I see some stuff all over the paint and the front passages tire was making a "pshhhh" sound. My Z was also keyed on I believe every panel along with that liquid stuff. I called a tow truck guy and he called a line to get the police to come out and write up a police report. As soon as the tow guy got there he said they threw paint removal ALL over the car and into the gas tank because the cap was missing. They got my carbon fiber fenders and hood really bad. Maybe because it was carbon fiber idk. All 4 tires had puncture holes in the side walls and the paint removal had dropped on them too.

It's just sooooo frustrating to see your car like that. I know I should have rushed to get gas, but at the same time I just didn't think someone would go that far as to doing what they did especially at a church parking lot. I did not even try to start my car because of what could happen. From what I saw I think these need to be replaced and/or refinished. Front bumper, headlights, carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber fenders, mirrors, roof, pillars, doors, rear quarter panels, trunk, rear bumper, tail lights, all 4 wheels and tires, and drop the gas tank and whatever else that has to do with that and flush it. The tow truck guy said most likely the car will be considered 'totaled' and have a salvage title. I love my Z, it was my first sports car I bought when I was 18 and I have had it these last 3 years. I don't want to see it go. What are you guys thinking will happen? :/

Man that sucks Nitrous :shakes head: Where was the church at?

We'll you really need to see what the insurance is willing to give you. If it's enough, you might be looking at getting that 370z you been thinking of.

Best of luck

Rob

There seems to be a rash of vandalism and theft going on. Sorry to hear you got bit.

If the insurance company does total the car, you may be able to buy it back from them. Whether or not that would make sense for you depends on how much they pay, repair costs, &c.

Hey Rob, it was right up the street from where we both turned into, that's where I live. I have been saving up to get one, slowly but surely. I wanted to be able to have both. That would have been nice.

I have nothing against people buying back salvage vehicles, but it's just something I don't think I could ever do because of the exteme loss of value that goes with them. If it does end up being totaled and the scenario is perfect, I might buy it back just because I have so many parts on the car that are still good. I guess I just have to wait and see. I have never experienced something like this before so ill just be patient and see what happens

Off topic to a degree, but you got pics of what the paint thinner did to car paint? Always been curious if it would work the same as house paint.

I own a body shop and I never seen a car get totaled over vandalizim so hopefully it doesn't happen in this case but on the bright side you should be able to get a new paint job door jambs and all because I would imagine the thinner dripped into the jambs

:shakes head: sorry man

I have pictures on my iphone but im not sure how to post them up. It DESTROYED the paint. The tow guy took his finger and wiped some off because he said there was nothing i could do to clean it off and the paint was all gone and it was down to bear metal.

Ok good to know. It did seep into the driver side door jamb i believe. When the tow guy opened the door to unlock the steering he was wiping off that whole area. I never checked to see if it did any damage because it was late at night and i didn't want to interfere with what he was doing. I'm just worried about my carbon fiber stuff because my fenders were $800 alone. I don't know much about what it would cost to fix the car or anything but the damages seem to be into the $6000 plus range if i were to take a guess. I don't like the idea of having to drop the gas tank and having it flushed. How much would something like that cost?

Hey man it happens. It shouldn't but it does. That car has been nothing but good to me so i hate to see her like this. Maybe its a sign to move on who knows. The car is currently at a body shop and I'm going down tomorrow to talk to the owner and see how much he would charge to do the work and what his opinion is. The body shop where shes at is pretty high end custom stuff so idk if that makes much of a difference in price.

kensin0429 11-27-2012 01:26 PM

If repair cost more then 65% or 70% of what the car is worth on bluebook they will salvage it

Apoc370z 11-27-2012 01:42 PM

Wow... I am just speechless.

*note to self. Do not leave the car out doesnt matter how tired i am..
