Keep in mind, that you can generally find very light seats -- but the rails will weigh a ton, and overall weight savings may or may not end up justifying the price and extra work to install.

yeah, its amazing how much heavier my evo2s felt after I added the brackets and mounts. I don't even have sliders. I'm gonna weigh them tomorrow for a comparison.

This is the #1 reason why I got all excited about springing for light seats on my old car and then never got them -- after adding in rails and sliders I discovered I'd shave all of 10 lbs per seat :(

For a hardcore track car, absolutely, but if the car is primarily a DD, notwithstanding an amazing deal on seats and needed hardware, it generally winds up being a LOT of money for a sore back and marginal weight savings :ugh2:

Let us know what everything seat related weighs -- maybe the difference will be greater than I expect on this car -- if so that would be very good to know for people thinking about doing this.

Please just whatever you do, don't skimp out and buy cheap ebay seats. They for one won't pass tech inspection, and for two are safety equipment.

How much were yours and do you have a picture of them?

Mike 11-04-2012 09:53 PM

799 each, and I don't have a picture at the moment, but I'll take one tomorrow when I do the weight comparison.

Mike 11-05-2012 11:53 AM

Stock I weighed at 42.6, Evo2US, with all mounting hardware, 29.4, so 13.2 lbs savings per seat. I could maybe drop 2 more pounds per seat if I went with aluminum side brackets instead of steel.

^^ so 26-27 lbs total saved -- . What's the ball park cost of all the parts tho'...

Mike 11-05-2012 05:30 PM

779 per seat x2
89 per side bracket set x2
99 per base set x 2

349 per set of racetech harnesses x2 plus 100 for import duties
(I had to have orange harnesses, doh!)
Harnesses probably add 2 - 3 lbs over stock seatbelts.

Seats weren't for weight savings in my case, the stock ones moved around way too much and I can't use a HANS device with the stock seats, so it was more of a safety upgrade for me.

NOW THIS IS WHAT HAS ME MOTIVATED.... lol:tup::driving:

Jordo! 11-05-2012 06:48 PM

Wow -- so around 2 grand for all that. Yeah, this is a mod for serious track guys only, as I thought.

Very sweet set-up, tho

Mike 11-05-2012 07:33 PM

I could have saved about 400 by going with G-force harnesses. Truth is, I had a loaner set because we didn't realize the racetechs in orange had to be custom made and shipped from England, and I liked the functionality of the G tech ones better. the lap belts adjust from the center instead of the outside on them. THe set on my side of the car is no issue, but if I have different sized passengers, its going to be hard to adjust them.

Just be careful with "No Name Ebay Racing seats". They may look racer cool but if you use them for what they are intended? Or if you're ever in an accident? You want to make sure that the proper safety materials and technology has been engineered into those seats... just saying.
