Default Torque (the app)

I searched around the forum and didn't find anything related to this topic, so if its already here please direct me to it and yell at me for being terrible at the internet.

I recently picked up an Android app called Torque that syncs via blue tooth to an OBD2 connector and gives you the ability to do a ton of cool stuff on your phone. Currently I'm using to to notify me when my engine reaches operating temp and read/clear error codes... However I know i'm just scratching the surface of what this app can do.

Is anyone else out there using this app and do you have any nifty tips/tricks that you can pass on to the rest of us?

You can download the app at:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...l.torque&hl=en

I'm using this for my OBD2 connector with blue tooth.. thus far the thing has worked perfectly:

well then you have the full feature set, I listed off the features in my review but to summarize some of the most useful I have found are AFR ratio, coolant temps, intake air temperature, 0-60 times, data logging the most useful. and I use the video app for torque that allows you to overlay any gauges over of the video.

It's a feature rich app. You can create custom PID's but you will have to search how to. I use the preprogrammed ones and have had good results. while at WOT i like to see AFR, revs, coolant temps, IAT on one screen. Another useful thing to track would be timing.

Are you running this on a phone or laptop? I'm currently running my on my phone which makes it impossible to view while driving (I don't have a phone mount).

I run Torque on the Phone and OBDwiz on the laptop when I want to really get hardcore. Get a cheap phone mount on Amazon ($15)

also, hope you're phone screen is large. I have 4.5"

Its not that large, I'm thinking about running it on an android tablet that I have... though mounting that would be a pain in the butt. Have you found any additional plugins that you found helpful? I downloaded an engine knock plugin just in case since you can use this thing on any car with an OBD2 port.

I also use this app. I have it on my droid razr with the car dock. The car doc is placed top left corner of the windshield. Power line runs under dash and up the inside of the A pillar. The only thing I have problems with is I also run pandora. Torque uses so much bluetooth bandwith that pandora skips. So for now I have to choose play music with no car data or car data and some other form of music.

I just got this setup and I've been playing with it a lot. Is there no fuel pressure readout on the 370?

Also, anyone know how accurate the 0-60 times are? When I do try it, I also have speed and RPM gauges on the screen and it takes them awhile to update so I can't time it by video.

I don't think the Z ecu measures fuel pressure, or maybe it's a custom PID. Would have to search that.

As far as accuracy, it's related to your refresh rate which is directly related to the OBD2 bluetooth dongle you have plugged in. I have one of the more advanced models (OBDLink MX) so refresh rates are just about instant, providing pretty spot on data.

here is a list of the adapters: Bluetooth Adapters - Torque OBD2 Wiki

well here is the problem, to see what each manufacturers custom PID set is you must pay thousands of dollars. There are about 40 universally shared PID's that are all the basics on an app like torque. but there are probably 100's of non-standard PID's.

Here is a good reference for PID help: OBD-II PIDs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rumor is the developer of Torque is getting the cutoms PIDs specific to Nissan and will eventually release an update, but it's still just a rumor.

It's interesting because virtually everything can be logged/monitored such ABS cycles, VDC, etc.

Do you guys know if the AFR measured gauge is accurate? I also use the app, and I know that during open loop (full throttle), ECU's just use a fuel table and avoid using the narrowband sensors and don't read AFR (at least on other cars I have worked on). Correct me if I am wrong!

I don't own an AFR gauge so I wouldn't really be able to tell.
