$6000 for 400+whp? MAYBE for parts but definitely not with professional install and tune. My issue with the Evo other than the barren interior is that (like many 4cyl turbos) at high speeds they feel like they hit a wall. My buddy has the first year 2004 STi and it feels damn slow accelerating end of 3rd and above and he makes 275whp.

Using the boosted performance kit I'd say you can get the Z to 500whp for ~9000. Not too shabby, certainly not as cheap as getting an evo to those numbers but I think the Z's engine would be able to handle the power a bit better.

I've gotta be careful to not spend too much on engine bolt ons with this car, you can very quickly hit the price of a good turbo kit staying NA.

its the torque that's more worrisome than the peak hp, damn you Nissan and your cast internals why couldn't you follow what Honda did with the s2000 and give us kick *** internals.

meh, my engine and I would be more than happy with 450whp/400tq. IMO anything higher and you start having issues using the power effectively.

NYBladeZ 11-15-2012 03:39 PM

I totally agree, 450+whp is for dyno shows and bragging rights. Unless you're racing GT500's or Z06's daily I don't see the real point.

Not quite. My Vette had over 500 wheel HP and 450+ TQ. I drove it every day and never had any problems with it. It was ridiculously fast and fun. The acceleration was a rush.

450 RWHP is not an issue.

NYBladeZ 11-15-2012 03:58 PM

Building a Vette and building a Z are two different stories. The Vette is a way better platform to build for 500+ hp/tq than the Z. Oh and btw I'm sure its been mentioned but forced induction on the Z will eventually require modifications to the auto tranny, another thing to take into account.

On the z, sure, but a lot of that has to do with the rear suspension geometry.

On a lot of other cars, the range from 450 to 700 or so is huge. That's where you go from "quick" to "holy sh!t"

lemon-fresh 11-15-2012 04:18 PM

I think that's basically what we were saying... And yes, I'm sure the mustang can handle that kind of power no problem.

NYBladeZ 11-15-2012 04:46 PM

a 450whp Z that is reliable and properly tuned would be bliss. Sure maintenance would be extensive but then again so is any top notch car. All these HP #'s are way more than I need anymore, give me 250+whp and I'll be thrilled.

That's a bit of an overestimate. Not sure how much power your trying to make but, 500whp and 10psi is pretty normal without building the motor. The price jump to get to 600whp and not break anything is considerable though. $6000 for 400+whp and $7k+ for 500whp. and double that to reach 600whp... not including labor

trust me 450-500 whp on the z was close to 18g for turn key GTM Stage 2 TT kit. I called them and got the price. I want a reliable kit and i think gtm for the z is the best IMHO but thats just me. Im not saying that it cant be had for less but not that much less. With 5-6g plus a tune the evo will be fine 350-400 whp and fast enough for me. I honestly want to see what the next z is going to be all about. my current z will def not be my last im willing to see whats next. I just want to own an evo and give it a shot. plus its the last year they are making it b4 they f*** it all up.

lemon-fresh 11-15-2012 10:25 PM

boosted performance turn key kit is 7000 and nets you 500whp (it's also pretty safe and easy to install)... Maybe you should have waited a little longer...

Sorry for the confusion, I was quoting without install/tuning on all estimates listed because then you start taking into account shop prices. Also wasn't including supporting mods such as oil coolers, radiators, powersteering coolers, auto tranny upgrades, clutch upgrades... not required but HIGHLY advised.

X2 a lot of people chase numbers, but its not only your engine but other supporting mods that will make your car durable.

How so? (Serious question)
