I was in 5th gear at the time we started, shifting into 6th at about 100 mph. While we stayed together at the very beginning, it was like he had another gear and flew ahead of me. I was doing about 110 before I got off the gas and he must have been doing 130 as I see him way ahead of me. Is the GT that much faster then the 370Z? It just seemed that I was pushing a brick after 100. Is it possible he had something a little extra under the hood of his GT? Needless to say I ate a healthy piece of humble pie and honestly was disappointed in the performance of the Z. At the end of the stretch of highway coming to a stop at a red light, I looked over at him and gave him a thumbs up for his GT. He rolled down his window and said to me "nice car". I'm sure he was saying to himself...but not as nice as my GT. I'm bummed out and can use a little pick-me-up from my Z friends!

A) in before deletion for street racing discussion
B) yes, the mustang is faster

onzedge 09-26-2012 08:46 AM

Street racing references are a big no-no here.

JohnsZ 09-26-2012 08:47 AM

Didn't know! I'll remove my post!

onzedge 09-26-2012 08:47 AM

Red_zed is also correct when he states that the Mustang GT is faster than the Z. Did you expect it was not? Simple math would tell you it's true.

c41006 09-26-2012 08:48 AM

Street racing = dumb :shakes head:

Are you really surprised that you got beat by a big V8?

You're "dis-liked" until you do...:shakes head:

b1adesofcha0s 09-26-2012 08:53 AM

What else did you expect with a car that has almost 100 HP more? :p

b1adesofcha0s 09-26-2012 08:56 AM

Also, IBTL

wstar 09-26-2012 08:58 AM

Also, at 80 you should've been in 4th :)

muzik212 09-26-2012 09:02 AM

It happens, we car guys are an emotionally driven group, easy to get caught up in the moment. Of course you could always throw a supercharger on that bad boy! :)

Mt Tam I am 09-26-2012 09:06 AM

6th gear at 100 MPH, not 4th? This helped him.

ChrisSlicks 09-26-2012 09:06 AM

On the M6 4th gear is good for 120+ mph so not sure WTF you were doing in 6th. Time to find a real race track and learn how to rev to red line. :p

6MT 09-26-2012 09:07 AM

this thread is attracting .... like flys to shite

jburke26 09-26-2012 09:09 AM

For sure, you gotta be in 4th and ride to redline.

tonybui 09-26-2012 09:13 AM

U should have been in 4th instead of 5th. Heck, i tried that starting from 3rd and quickly shifted to 4th and redline it

Ha ha ha! I'm trying to delete it, honestly! Thanks for the chuckle!

JohnsZ 09-26-2012 09:18 AM

Trying to delete the post but I appreciate your responses. Looks like driver error on my part and uneducated to the Mustang GT! I feel better!

enkei2k 09-26-2012 09:19 AM

I'm glad Red_Zed quoted your original post so I can read it

:icon18: Was scrolling down HOPING someone would mention this, plus the fact, the year makes a big difference, SOME GT's you should be able to compete with... The Shelby's, NO:mad:

Even in the right gear, you should have lost. :p [EDIT] Should have mentioned it depends on which GT. The old GT is slower, but the 5.0 is faster.

Also, PM a Trips or Frost for the thread. I don't think you can close it on a base account? I can't remember. :icon14:

red6spd 09-26-2012 09:44 AM

He never even mentioned that it was a 5.0 LOL!!! Maybe he is a bad driver, maybe the GT was a 4.6 and modded. LOL. You guys need to stop drinking the 5.0 Cool Aid.

New GT = 5.0

Its just funny.

Random Z guy- "Yea so I got smoked by a GT Stang yesterday"

90% of the Z forum- "Oh man 5.0's are so fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They rape everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, but it makes the story funnier if you keep imagining it with progressively slower and slower Mustangs.

"So, I lined up and this Mustang II started throwin' revs at me, and then all I saw were his tail lights." :roflpuke2:

Correct me if I'm wrong but the last year 4.6 was exactly the same on the outside down to the sequential tail lights as the first year 5.0??? Or at least very close no? All I'm saying is if I'm telling a story about me getting smoked by a 5.0 I'm calling it a 5.0.

Zenki370 09-26-2012 09:52 AM

maybe it was a 4.6 GT that was in the proper gear to accelerate... or it was a 5.0, either way they knew what gear to be in...

Strictly speaking, that's no longer the current bodystyle.

We can argue all day about what the OP may or may not now, but it is a perfectly reasonable interpretation to assume actually meant a new car, not a 2010.

I don't see why it would be unreasonable to think that it "could" be a 2010. The 2010-2012 body style is very similar to the 2013, and someone who doesn't know the subtle difference could mistake them.

Didn't say it wasn't. Just saying most people will assume 5.0 based on the information given.

Based on sales numbers, the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of it being a 5.0.

It could be a 4.6 or a 5.0. Both are reasonable conclusions. But I think the 5.0 is the more likely candidate based on the given information. Either way, both have a SRA... :stirthepot:

That's true. I just find the more pathetic case to be funnier.

I heard he hasn't even cleaned his carburetor since he bought it in 1964

Mt Tam I am 09-26-2012 10:07 AM

I am looking forward to personally finding out where 4th gear winds out next month at a high speed track. I read 120+ in this thread.

6th is just an overdrive correct? Or where does 5th gear take a 370 to, without a limiter?

shadoquad 09-26-2012 10:09 AM

I got walked in one of these earlier

Not sure if I should push more boost to my Twin Turbos or if the Z can handle it.

When you're lined up against this, you should just admit defeat before the light turns green.
