Kill half the tank and go back to fill up with 91/93?

FairladyZ 09-18-2012 09:28 PM

To be honest, your dealer probably put in 87 too cause most sales people are dumb.

First off has anyone ever done this before? Secondly I know I'm retarded for doing this. Most importantly what should I do? Put octane booster in the tank? No pinging sounds as of yet. Is it really necessary to try and drain the $70. Of gas I just filled up with?

Lucky she did not distract you to fill it with Diesel :roflpuke2:

if its available, pump 100 octane into your car at half tank, that should make it about 91 octane after the mix but it might be a bit higher or lower

just take it easy though

It's fine. It even says in the manual that it's okay to put 87 octane gas in an emergency if there's no higher octane. Just don't keep repeating it.

Nope. A gallon of toluene is however. Its in the paint section at Lowes.

:iagree:

But I would use at least 93 octane. When mixing octanes of equal volume the resulting octane mix an average of the 2.

Example: 9 gallons of 87 octane + 9 gallons of 93 octane = 18 gallons of 90 octane

Cheap, effective and safe octane booster.

Ya think?

It goes on to say:

"Toluene also poses similar problems as alcohol fuels, as it eats through standard rubber fuel lines and has no lubricating properties, as standard gasoline does,[citation needed] which can break down fuel pumps and cause upper cylinder bore wear."

Won't be going in my tank.
