I finally had enough
This is a difficult post for me. I have loved my Z for the last two years. However, the combination of noise and very hard ride have taken their toll. I have to use whatever car I own as my dd. So, for the last 20,000 miles (minus some great track days), the car has taken me to work, shopping, vacation, etc.
I made all the right mods (teflon/ss brake lines, oil cooler, racing brake fluid, etc.) and the car was amazing fun to drive, but just not to and from work. After reading here and doing a lot of soul searching, I traded my Z in for a Mustang GT 50, California edition. The numbers for this car are very close to the 370 (5 sec 0-60, 27mpg avg, turns like a Z). I figured that at least from a handling perspective it would be close. The car is only two days old, so I don't have any authoritive data. It's way quieter. The ride is more forgiving (but not soft by any means). It is much bigger and the seating position is easier on my old bones. I should be happy, but I'm not. I really loved my Z. No Ford will ever make me feel that way. I guess this is goodbye. I have loved my time on this forum and thanks for the patient and helpful advice I have gotten here. I will never forget the two years I had my 370Z. If I had the money, I would have kept it as my weekend and fun car. Oh well. Bob |
So you wanted to look like everyone else? Kidding. Somewhat. Good luck.
|
Congrats on the new car, Bob. Sorry to see you go :tiphat:
|
Enjoy the new ride
|
sad to see you give up on the Z. Very tough ride? What suspension did you have on it? The stock ride was great. Now the Nismo ride was very hard. I have Swifts and I love it. It is perfect.
|
Good luck I guess :ugh2: |
Good luck with your new ride.
I hope the improved ride comfort overcomes the glaring disparity in build quality, for you. For me? That disparity drove me out of a 2011 Camaro SS1 and into a 2012 Z. |
Seattle Lion
Good luck. Im lucky, my Z is a weekend car only plus with new Hankooks and after lining the hatch area , its really good in terms of the problems you mentioned. Have fun in the Stang. Rich

seattlelion, I was just visiting your wonderful state and logged over 800 miles in the rent a car. I understand why the noise & ride would bother you. A lot of your highways and streets have that rough surface which would make the Z a road echo chamber.
Enjoy your GT, it's a great car as I test drove 2 of them before deciding on the Z. Aloha! |
I've got a bone-stock '09 Z that I use as my DD, and I've never understood the noise or harsh ride complaints. And my bones are definitely not young!
Regardless, congrats and best wishes on your new ride! If I were to purchase a new car right now, it would be what you just bought. |
Pics of said Mustang? What year GT?

If you stick around and can't take the hate, there is a support group. :)

Sell the GT and recover your Z!! |
Good luck! The Mustang does have more space and is easier to get into and out of, and it IS quieter, as for ride, I am on a stock suspension and I love it, and yeah, the Z is really noisy... But the 5.0 to me felt like a really big dumb horse, felt like a Crown Vic...
In any case, you can still visit us! We don't bite |
I'm sorry for your loss. Playing Monday morning quarterback at this point which I hate to do but am doing it for anyone who might be struggling with the same decision. Some sound deadening and suspension work would have probably cured what ailed you. Hopefully you will love your new car as much. Good luck man!

Sorry to see another go the way of the Mustang. I am glad you got what you wanted and yes the Z ride is stiff. I just like to say it rides as well as other cars costing many times more such as a Ferrari. :tiphat:
Farewell Bob |
Enjoy your new Mustang!

Pics of the new ride?

Sorry to hear about letting go of your Z.
The Z is really not the best DD car out there.. it hates to be driven slow specially through traffic and when it gets heat up the exhaust becomes too loud and harsh/tiring to drive to much power. But in a freeway you just don't want to stop driving until you almost suck up that tank dry. I still drive my Z early morning wasting gas just to satisfy my craving for spirited driving. Again gas is cheaper than Depression pills. Im sure your gonna love your Mustang too...give it some time. Don't forget to write us back!!! |
Bummer... too bad you couldn't find a way to get yourself a DD and keep the Z too.
There's nothing wrong with the Mustang. Some of them are pretty sweet. They're just far too common for me though. That's part of the reason I dumped my 350z. You can barely throw a key fob without hitting one, then bouncing off of that one and hitting another one on the way down. |
whats the price difference on a gt and a 5.0, also how much faster is the 5.0
|
I can't hate on anyone who makes the switch to the Mustang anymore...V-6 or 5.0. That car has improved a ton with the new engines and is a very good overall value with either version. Good luck to you!

The 5.0 is the GT Quote:
not sure if serious |
No replies from him since his OP. I think he's gone. :shakes head:

I personally didn't feel the stock suspension as hard. Sports car stiff but not harsh. But what's important in the end is your happiness. Tanabe makes GT coilovers that would have softened the ride. Sound deadening would at least reduce some noise. Also, switching to continental DWS tires would have cut road noise.
The 5.0 is a serious performer and should be fun. I wish you the best and maybe the Z35 will sway you back in a couple of years??? Be safe. |

You traded a Nissan for a Ford? Really? Well, when that piece of crap falls apart and leaves you stranded on the highway don't say we didn't tell you to keep you reliable Z.

I'm surprised you find the CS/base suspension and tire package to feel close to the Z in handling. The Brembo/Track pack cars have a far superior suspension and tire package compared to the CS and base GTs.
