Top Speed

So I could not find a thread about this, so I am making one.
How fast have you had your Z up to? How long did it take you to get there?

m4a1mustang 06-27-2009 11:14 AM

Around 1,000 mph. Pretty much now.

bigaudiofanat 06-27-2009 11:26 AM

Lol

MightyBobo 06-27-2009 12:29 PM

Only as fast as my angel can fly.

I've only had my car up to 135. But you know it doesn't have a top speed limiter anymore (tune) and I am planning on heading out to... oh I dunno... maybe the Maricopa HWY one of these days to say hello to the open sky and jackrabbits..

Basic meth? Isn't that dangerous?

CBRich 06-27-2009 03:46 PM

Basic meth is one of the most dangerous forms. Careful.

FricFrac 06-27-2009 03:54 PM

He's obviously a dealer if he's encouraging people to do basic meth. Once you start on the basic meth then you're hooked any you want to move on to intermediate meth then advanced meth quickly follows... ;P

spearfish25 06-27-2009 10:17 PM

I'm not too sure about you Leepeen

Advanced meth will send you on a crazy tangent.

Sashimi 06-27-2009 10:43 PM

Damn I feel like it'll be scary driving that car past 130 on the roads around here, I know it was with my rx7.

leepeen 06-28-2009 02:31 AM

oops, i meant math, not meth... :o

Crash 06-28-2009 04:06 AM

My top speeds for my cars:

C4 Corvette - 145MPH
Firebird Formula - 145MPH
Trans Am - 160+MPH (Buried the needle past 155, so I'm not 100% how fast.)
300zx 100MPH (+/- 5MPH) (Don't want to push it... Haven't worked on the suspension yet)

Sashimi 06-28-2009 05:40 AM

So far with 370z 100mph it's still being broken in
rx7-140mph
WRX- 125mph

DarinFred 06-28-2009 05:52 AM

159 on the Autobahn...going downhill...just couldn't get it to 160. Maybe if I kick my buddy out the passenger side it'll hit it.

I've noticed that at 100 mph in rain/wind on concrete (seamed) roadways, the Yokohama Advan Sports on the base/touring feel a mite skittery. I'd want the 1" wider tires of the sport package (and probably better nose downforce).

The rest of the time, standard highway driving conditions and speeds, I'm probably getting around 5% better gas mileage. (This will improve even more when I sacrifice some grip to get All-Seasons late this fall.)

You're driving 100mph in the rain!?

joshj808 06-28-2009 11:11 AM

Yup, i have too. AWD is nice to have. Good wet enviro tires too. I love my Eagle F1 GS D3s.

laserjim 06-28-2009 01:29 PM

Speed

Hey my 350z would do 158.Anybody know the speed of stock 370z?:driving:

Trips 06-28-2009 01:59 PM

The books say electronically limited to 155 mph but has anybody gone that fast yet?

Junior370z 06-28-2009 05:01 PM

I have a tune just like killerbee370z but haven't tried yet to peg the speedometer. I'll do it one of these days on an open road. I did however go from 70mph to 110mph in about 5 seconds. My wife was in the car and timed it for me. Got there pretty quick IMO.

You guys are f*cking NUTS! I'd never drive fast in the rain. Not because of my nerves or faith in the car, but because you'll NEVER know what's ahead; and by that I mean other people (and how they're driving), cops, tree branches, etc... There's too many variables in the rain. Hydroplaning is bad, but it's not the only thing that can go wrong. And even if you have AWD, a sudden course adjustment can really ruin your day.

No == I said rain #AND# wind. Specifically about 15 mph from the front right. And the rain isn't/wasn't torrential, but enough that it should have cleaned off the road surface. Visibility a quarter mile, or ten highway markers.

I was surprised the Z felt skittery at all at this speed. Though the summer treads may have been part of the issue, now that I think of it.

Some cars which we don't think of as "sports cars" handle these conditions with aplomb. Midsize or larger MBs and BMWs, for example, are heavy road cruisers that just eat up this stuff. A lot of 4WD, AWD cars are good. My Yukon is streamlined like a brick but with 4WD on, your sane limits are that you don't want to outrun the pisspoor headlights nor have to rely on the tiny disc/drum braking set.

And to be absolutely clear, this is driving when there isn't anyone else on the road. In NJ most cars are capable of safe operation well above the posted speed limit. But other drivers' unpredictability is a major factor.

And I'm not even talking about "street racing". The key to keeping points off your license is to be second or third fastest, have a good radar detector, and watch taillights ahead of you. The lead car in a set of fast-moving cars is called the Rabbit, and his primary mission is NOT to go fast, but to absorb all those deadly radar gun rays. :)

IMO, driving fast in any condition other than dry is a no-no.

But you live in Los Angeles, where there isn't any other kind of weather.

Vancouver. Toronto. Florida. All present characteristic road conditions you need to become expert in (if you live or visit there).

The Fair Lady isn't just a fair weather car -- at least, we all don't think so!

look at the vid on the 1st page and see for yourself...there is no limiter at 155. i myself also took mine to 158 w/room to spare just had a turn coming up so i backed off the throttle.

Contrary to popular belief, Los Angeles has PLENTY of rain. Maybe not as much as Miami (since it seems to rain every day there) but we certainly get plenty of rain. Usually in June it's pouring non-stop but it's only rained a couple days this month.

Los Angeles has even had snow a few times. Our weather changes like a bi-polar teen-ager's mood. Cold as hell in the morning, blazing hot in the afternoon, and back to cold by night.

Although, right now, I'm enjoying the convertible. PERFECT weather at night. ;)

kannibul 06-29-2009 08:59 AM
