Do you tip your service advisor?
Saw this discussion in another forum. Curious to see if this is a common practice in the Z community.
Do you tip your service advisor? If yes, what's the appropriate amount? I never did. Not that I'm stingy. It just never came across my head 'til seeing such discussion. |
Helllllllllll nooooo!!!!!!!!
|
Tip for what exactly? Writing up your paperwork and fIghting you on warranty issues? Yeah, worth it to me.
Now, I do get great service at a local Honda dealer above and beyond even close to normal. Doesn't hurt to let the Service Director and Regional Manager know about it. |

I've been to Nissan three times with the 370.
#1 They fixed and replaced my gas tank, my car ended up tracking like someone with herpes flaring up. He wanted me to pay $100 and take more time from work to get it aligned. #2 and #3 They refused to fix anything and wasted my time and money. They wont even pick me up from work (15 miles away) With that kind of service, you think I will tip those a$$holes? |
Heck no! Is this a serious question?
|
:iagree:
This can't be a serious question ... so :gtfo2: |
hellz no. i don't even take it to a nissan dealer for service. i take it to a hyundai dealer my buddy works at that has a much nicer/newer bay and he treats the car like i would.
|
I hardly tip waitress cause they believe it's a given without earning it.
But I'll tip my alignment guy and any low guy that works on my car. |
No, the most I will do is bring them business.
My service adviser cuts me deals and helps me out. Brought my GF Z in (out of warranty), he threw out the standard $99 charge just to look at the car. I recommend people to see him as long as he continues to help and provide good service. The guys who work on my car(s) will get helped out extra. From maybe a little cash to bringing them side business. |
When I take my 370 or Juke to the dealer, I bring donuts. Seriously. The staff at Maita Nissan are mostly former Datsun guys, many of them race and they go out of their way to help out and take care of their customers. Strange, I know, but they are highly professional.

OP, there is no need to tip the advisor. It might even be insulting because some might consider themself as more white collar. I'd tip the tech actually working on the car if they did a really good job. Buy the service advisor guys donuts or something if they really helped you out. |

"A lot." No, I do not tip my service adviser. However if he goes to bat for me on anything I will make sure that his name is mentioned to the right people. |
Yeah if they do a good job I'll fill out those service cards/participate in those customer satisfaction surveys you get sometimes. I don't tip though that's crazy talk.
|
I don't tip. They constantly try to take more money, fix what ain't broke, and nickle and dime me to death.
Screw them. I am nice, I never set a time table for minor services, and I treat them with respect, but that is as far as it goes |
Sometimes I will buy pizzas for the shop, no tips

And to add to that I hate the fact when you go somewhere and one person takes your drink order, one for main course, and another person brings it out to you. What? Then the hole time you'll have others refill your drink. In that case who am I tipping? All of them? I don't think so. |
I don't tip at the dealership
When I take my car to an independent garage for work (I go to an Import performance shop more than the dealership) I tip the guys working on my car. They often refuse but I force them to take it! Or if I got to a wheel shop fore tires to be changed, I'll tip those guys Actually...at the dealership, only person I tip is the Curtesy van driver if they drop me off somewhere if I am not waiting for my car |
I always try to pick nicer advisors by looking at reviews online or through friends referrals before I go to a new dealership. So most of them are great except for those BMW guys. Those are really pushy and recommend tons of unnecessary stuff.
I don't tip them but I give them gift cards, bottles of wine, etc on special occasions like Thanksgiving, Christmas. Sometimes I just give them baseball tickets when I can't make it to the games. |
I never even considered tipping at a dealership...
The pizza and coffee is a good idea for the service techs. |

I think the pizza thing is a great idea. I'm gonna buy pizza for my guy on Fri I think. They did me a huge freaking favor fixing my key fob issue over the past 2 weeks.
|
I avoid dealer service departments like the plague. No, I do not tip the Black Death.
|
Hell. No.
I feel like they should tip me for bringing my car in. |
I give my sales rep tips...
Last tip i gve him was "Don't pick up any wooden nickels". The dealership makes a shytload on us. The sales reps job is to kiss your azz in your face while behind your back they need to find a way to overcharge. lol. I'm rapin' the dealer... not vice versa. At least wherever i can. lol |
took my Z to fix the soft top. it's scrapping the painted tonneau. the service advisor asked his manager to get approval to touch up the chip + adding clear protection film to prevent future damages. I didn't buy the car from that dealer, but that was something beyond what they needed to do. I really appreciated their work but the "tip" thing never came across my mind at that time.
|
No, don't tip. If they are nice to you and you want to build good relationship with them, coffee and donuts will do.

We get a lot of donunts and baked goods, not all service depts are created equal. We bend over backwards for our customers...its our owners way and philosophy, and 90% of people that fight with me is because they do not want to pay when its not warranty...Yesterday I ate a $350 bill because a lady refused to pay, the dead mouse causing the odor in her evaporator box that filled up the blower motor with the dog food from her garage, who has never had mice in her garage in 10+ years, quote "came with the car and therefore is warranty"...after we pulled the dead mouse, sanitized the car and cleaned the blower out we did infact find a deceased Japanese ninja mouse...
http://www.deviantart.com/download/3...ix-d5452di.png I know all the dealers are not honest and some service depts are just terrible, but the good ones are out there, and if you find them, create a relationship, it will go a far way, I can rattle off numerous people I know by name that are fantastic customers, I service all their vehicles, not just the Honda, and they know we are higher priced(but the regulars get far better pricing), but it is a professional relationship and trust; you want great service, get to know the tech and request them by name, trust me! If anyone is in the Pittsburgh/greensburg area, let me know which dealer you go to, one of my co-workers is a former nissan service manager and knows about all the staff at South hills, pittsbugh east and star in gburg, I can give you some names of people that will take car of you, either tech or advisor. |
I only tip my highway patrol officers

Never thought about tipping a service advisor. I have a good one that has been there for many years and saved me money. When I get my new car in, I will start bringing donuts.
|
if i dont wanna strike a service advisor in the face by the end of my time at a dealership then he should consider himself tipped
