Selling the z today, am I crazy???

So I'm selling the Z today for 23.5k. 2009 Touring Silver 6M with 27k miles. I kind of need to get rid of her, but I still feel like my price is waaay to low. Am I crazy?

6MT 08-16-2012 11:07 AM

no

kellyefields 08-16-2012 11:08 AM

yes

speedfreek 08-16-2012 11:09 AM

I wouldn't say you are crazy as I wouldn't want to sell mine either. I don't think it is super low depending on your area. There is a member on here who was just offered $30k for their '11 Touring with Sport and Nav with low miles.

ccdominic 08-16-2012 11:11 AM

09 touring's with 35-40k miles are selling at dealerships for 26-27k in my area. i do need to get rid of her since i already got another car. kind of rushed into it, but still can't help but wonder if i should hold and out and sell her for 25 or so.

ccdominic 08-16-2012 11:11 AM

and please don't troll with your one word responses

I would hold out as long as you can. If you aren't pushed to sell I wouldn't unload at price lower than I felt it was worth...especially if the going rate is much higher and yours is in better condition with lower miles. I would want to be on the highest end of the spectrum.

You can always ask for more, but remember that dealers are in business to make money. They can't buy your car back for 26k and hope to sell it for 27k. Whoever buys your car in future will probably haggle them down a little, AND if they keep your car for so long, there may be additional costs involved.

bigdog1250 08-16-2012 11:24 AM

That seems very low, you could easily get $25+ for her. I wouldn't settle for anything less than $26, you don't even have that many miles on it, plus the newer models got a price increase recently which also helps your case.

MattP725 08-16-2012 12:08 PM

If you are trading it in that is a reasonable price... like the other guy said, dealerships are in the business of making money so there is going to be a spread. If you want 25-26, sell it privately but then you are married to the headache if the person is a really b-buster.

You asked for a yes or no question not for us to reassure you on your decision so dont get mad when your question was answered. now if you want a discussion here you go. sounds like you already made up your mind to sell now you just want to know if you are getting a good deal. That is up to what you think is a good deal. Simply put dealers are going to turn around and sell it for around 26-27k. They make their money on the fees and such that they can stick to the consumer. So it comes down to what you think your time is worth in terms of advertising your car and then how long it will take to sell it. For some it does not make sense to hold out for a higher price since you will loose money making payments until it sells for what you want for it. The only time this does not apply is when the car is paid off. So for me I would say to sell it outright and pocket the money the other upside is you can still continue to enjoy it until that day comes. :eekdance:

Waiz 08-16-2012 12:11 PM

I think your price is fair

I would run it through the Edmunds.com used price estimator just to be certain

Dealer price and trade in price are two different things BTW

chris410 08-16-2012 12:15 PM

Trade in I got 23.5k for my 09 touring auto which had 34k miles on it. You could probably get 25K if you sold it yourself however, the market is pretty slow, just look at the classifieds here and you'll see how long some are taking to sell.

Good luck!

Thechidz 08-16-2012 12:21 PM

yeah it's tough to sell a z these days privately :/

cossie1600 08-16-2012 12:23 PM

If you need to get rid of it, why are you going to cry over $1k. It is what it is. If you are concerned about the $1K, dont buy a second car

who's cryin doosh bag? like i said troll, feel free to :gtfo2: i just wanted some input from some fellow z owners. and if you wanna brag like 1-2k isnt anything to you, feel free to send it to me idiot. ANYWAYS...

i agree with the slow market comment. the reason i dropped the price so low was there was no interest in it for a few months. not a peep. but i guess if you wanna sell fast in a slow market that's the price you pay.

thanks for the fast input guys. guess i'm just going through denial about getting rid of her, but with the crazy terrible fuel economy my new car gets, i gotta get something fuel efficient.

Yes you are crazy but here is where you get back your sanity, that's the price you pay. It also applies to gas mileage. Quick sales are discounted usually, so do what you must. Good luck.

:iagree: that's what I was going to suggest too. gives you an idea what the market is.

ccdominic 08-16-2012 12:56 PM

yea that edmund's calculator seemed to do a lot better job at including where the market's at. thanks for the input on that one.

cossie1600 08-16-2012 01:12 PM

Yes I am the idiot for buying a second car even though I can't afford to keep two. You expect dealership to take in your car and sell it without a profit? I am the one lacking common sense? When did dealership turn into non-profit?

What do you expect other owners to tell you? You expect one of us to pay you $26K and buy your car? Cut bait and take your losses if you can't wait, else prepare to sit on it until the right buyer show up.

If dealers are selling those cars at those prices, then I think your price is right on if you want to sell sooner than later. Maybe a dealer will buy you car quick and easy for that price. Not crazy.

wow. you are definitely an idiot.
1. i can afford both, just want a second car that get's better gas mileage
2. i never said i was trading it in, i'm selling it privately
3. i expected other owners to tell me exactly what they're telling me
4. i already said all this, so learn to read before you open your mouth

yea seems to be the jist of the situation. was up for a few months, but i guess i should be happy i found a buyer in this slow market and just cut my losses.

Rui Z 08-16-2012 01:31 PM

23.5K is a fair price. MSRP was about $35K right? Since you're in year 4 the price should be about 60% of $35K + $2K extra for low mileage.

cossie1600 08-16-2012 01:38 PM

I am sure you can afford two cars, just can't pay the extra $100 in gas a month.

Keep waiting for the next sucker to pay you $26K, remember it only takes one.

sigh. people like you amaze me. why are you still here? get a life kid. so i want a daily with good gas mileage, and i realized how much of a pain it is to not have the option of back seats, especially on a daily. that enough explanation for you troll? just stfu and move on. stop trying to make your pathetic trolling seem admirable spitting what is only ignorance.

apparently it wasn't sold until 2010. not sure that matters as far as depreciation, but bleh. just gonna bite the bullet and sell it. looking forward to throwing some real money at the new car anyways.

cossie1600 08-16-2012 01:59 PM

Thanks, I haven't been called a kid in a while. I have to be online in order to get paid for my homes and cars. How else am I going to pay for the losses from buying and selling cars?

Once again, I might be ignorant, but at least I know a car is only worth as much as a person is willing to pay. I know it is hard to understand for you, but life lesson is hard.

Z's are worth more in dallas, but you'll spend you profit getting it up here to sell. I see 09's for 29k still. (which i find laughable.) But i would take 26k cash. its still in the statewide range of pricing based on region of the state. and its good money for where you live...

Sad to see you lose your Z. Good luck.

Yeah but they aren't getting that and aren't selling...lol. I have seen some of the same ones for sale for months on end in the DFW area. CCdominic it doesn't matter if it was sold in 10 as 09, it still will have 09 depreciation!
