Selling the z today, am I crazy???

So I'm selling the Z today for 23.5k. 2009 Touring Silver 6M with 27k miles. I kind of need to get rid of her, but I still feel like my price is waaay to low. Am I crazy?

6MT 08-16-2012 11:07 AM

no

kellyefields 08-16-2012 11:08 AM

yes

I wouldn't say you are crazy as I wouldn't want to sell mine either. I don't think it is super low depending on your area. There is a member on here who was just offered $30k for their '11 Touring with Sport and Nav with low miles.

09 touring's with 35-40k miles are selling at dealerships for 26-27k in my area. i do need to get rid of her since i already got another car. kind of rushed into it, but still can't help but wonder if i should hold and out and sell her for 25 or so.

I would hold out as long as you can. If you aren't pushed to sell I wouldn't unload at price lower than I felt it was worth...especially if the going rate is much higher and yours is in better condition with lower miles. I would want to be on the highest end of the spectrum.

You can always ask for more, but remember that dealers are in business to make money. They can't buy your car back for 26k and hope to sell it for 27k. Whoever buys your car in future will probably haggle them down a little, AND if they keep your car for so long, there may be additional costs involved.

That seems very low, you could easily get $25+ for her. I wouldn't settle for anything less than $26, you don't even have that many miles on it, plus the newer models got a price increase recently which also helps your case.

If you are trading it in that is a reasonable price... like the other guy said, dealerships are in the business of making money so there is going to be a spread. If you want 25-26, sell it privately but then you are married to the headache if the person is a really b-buster.

You asked for a yes or no question not for us to reassure you on your decision so dont get mad when your question was answered. now if you want a discussion here you go. sounds like you already made up your mind to sell now you just want to know if you are getting a good deal. That is up to what you think is a good deal. Simply put dealers are going to turn around and sell it for around 26-27k. They make their money on the fees and such that they can stick to the consumer. So it comes down to what you think your time is worth in terms of advertising your car and then how long it will take to sell it. For some it does not make sense to hold out for a higher price since you will loose money making payments until it sells for what you want for it. The only time this does not apply is when the car is paid off. So for me I would say to sell it outright and pocket the money the other upside is you can still continue to enjoy it until that day comes. :eekdance:

I think your price is fair

I would run it through the Edmunds.com used price estimator just to be certain

Dealer price and trade in price are two different things BTW

chris410 08-16-2012 12:15 PM

Trade in I got 23.5k for my 09 touring auto which had 34k miles on it. You could probably get 25K if you sold it yourself however, the market is pretty slow, just look at the classifieds here and you'll see how long some are taking to sell.

Good luck!

Thechidz 08-16-2012 12:21 PM

yeah it's tough to sell a z these days privately :/

cossie1600 08-16-2012 12:23 PM

If you need to get rid of it, why are you going to cry over $1k. It is what it is. If you are concerned about the $1K, dont buy a second car
