Serisouly Torn between 2012 and 2013 Z

Dude like I was JUST about to pull the trigger when BOOM a 2013 Z passes me on the road, i sped to what he was going to see how it looked like and it instantly grew on me.
Shoot....
So now im thinking instead of a touring/sp PW z 6MT for 42k walk out with Everything
Just go for a 2013 base/sp pw 6mt for 35-36k walk out....WHAT SHOULD I DO BABY BOO

Yea but have u guys seen it in person?

bigdog1250 07-26-2012 10:22 AM

12 will save you a good chunk of change, and arguably is sexier! While I'm sure the 13 isn't that bad overall, the wheels really are fugly.

Get the collectors edition Z ('09 - 12)

enkei2k 07-26-2012 10:26 AM

Dude like seriously? Like, OMG serious? Totally.

I haven't seen the '13 in person but I'm not sure I like what I see so far. Pretty sure I like the wheels less and I think the LED's would look better if they... Weren't there.

Basically I see no reason not to get a good deal on the '12 if you can find one optioned like you want.

In pics I dont like the new bumper. It makes it look like a 350 which I never liked. As for the wheels, i dont see how anyone can find them acceptable in general let alone compared to their predecessors.

I agree... I like the 350 but like the 370 much better, and those wheels, man.. If I were going to buy a base and add my own BBK and some Volks or whatever, maybe, but those new sport wheels look like the '09 - '12 wheels melted in a fire or something. :ugh2:

Minsu 07-26-2012 10:33 AM

but im just sure dishin out another 5-6k for touring is worth it.

I love my touring seats (the heat and leather), homelink mirror, ect...

TypeOne 07-26-2012 10:40 AM

I don't mind the 2013s... I think they will grow on everyone so I try to have an open mind.

But... I would go with the better deal because, essentially its the same car.

Why would you want something that ugly growing on you? :stirthepot:

How into creature comforts are you? If you are old like myself it is important. If you are young and $6,000+ saved by buying the non touring. I think I'd skip the touring, although I did buy the touring.

Every time I'm at the track I wish I'd skipped the extra weight. Every other day I'm glad I did not.

Good luck. You win either way.

One good thing about this car is that the base cloth seats are very nice IMHO.

yep, it looks great and feels pretty good.

Minsu 07-26-2012 11:18 AM

sigh i also feel like the resale on the 2012 touring will be better than the 2013 assuming future generations dont like the look and are looking for a 2012.
Also i keep hearing shifting in the z is hard, the z is my first manual car so the learning curve might not be as steep seeing as i dont need to get "used" to this box aside from anothers

AreJay 07-26-2012 11:24 AM

My Z is my first standard vehicle I've ever drove, and I learned it rather fast. I dont understand why people say its "hard to drive".

w0rM 07-26-2012 11:25 AM

It doesn't matter what any of us like. Buy the one YOU like the best. If the 2013 style turns you on, BUY IT!

For what it's worth, I like the idea of an awesome deal on the 2012 a lot more. Everything about it is the same except for how it looks.

Vertigo 07-26-2012 11:26 AM

+1 for the 2012.

Its not hard to drive, but it is definitely not the smothest tranny out there. Clutch play is definitely strange with some dead spots, and the 1st to 2nd shift is gritty as all hell. Replacing the clutch helper spring helps some.

I actually heard that it doesnt help much, i read that nothing can really solve the tranny issue no matter what do to it

Davey 07-26-2012 12:15 PM

It's not really hard to drive once you get used to it, but it is harder to get used to than some. I've been driving sticks for years and there are some you'll get in and you get the idea how quick to let the clutch up and all that within just a few shifts, and the Z takes a little more practice, that's all.

Yes both the new colors, the coupe and the vert along with the 13 nismo and 13 GT-R. It's really personally taste and no one can make the choice for you.

KaienZ34 07-26-2012 12:29 PM

The synchro makes someone who has never driven stick seem like a pro.

Minsu 07-26-2012 12:38 PM

Then pro me up baby

KaienZ34 07-26-2012 12:48 PM

My wife handled it fine and she has never drive an MT car before.

I still can stand the sight of a stock one...looks is still the only thing I don't like...

then again with a few pieces it does demand my attention!

Ill agree with that, considering i changed the spring and the put in redline tranny fluid and it pretty much feeld the same. I even went as far as going to the dealership and test driving other brand new Zs, and some of them were actually worse. there was a roadster there that was just plain awful.

Agreed. I thought the 350 looked like an ugly turtle from the first time I saw one, and that hasnt changed to this day.

my2004Z 07-26-2012 01:31 PM

The best way to make this decision is to take a picture of yourself standing next to each version as well as a picture of you in each car with windows down. Put the pictures side by side and see what a few little kids think since they are brutally honest and don't know or care about the tidbits of automobile technology. It's probably better to go with relatives since they have a sense for your personality AND so you don't get arrested for surveying kids at your local Chuck E Cheeses. Try to get similar colors so they aren't swayed by their favorite color.

kenchan 07-26-2012 02:09 PM

they will just question why the op is bald?

chris410 07-26-2012 02:37 PM

12...the 13 looks too much like a 350. IMO the 13 is a step backwards when it comes to looks. Also, it is a shame that Nissan did not do anything to bump up the HP numbers.

I will say that in the end YOU are paying for the car so go with the one YOU like...who cares what anyone else thinks.

There will always be people who like your car and people who will hate your car if you drive anything worth noticing!
