they won't go awd... no baby GTRs here... but I agree, going back to a smaller FI motor would be practical and amazing.. and they can do what they did with the JUKE.. sport mode, turns the boost up, and eco mode...

I bought it for RWD... AWD is not all its cracked up to be. A smaller motor is lame, you won't be able to throw anything at it power wise.

If they go with a smaller motor they will most likely also add FI to keep the power up. With FI you can throw way more power at it than you can now.

How is that? Have you seen what the Evo's WRX can do. Yes their flat four but that doesn't make much difference with today's technology plus most likely they will be adding direct fuel injection.

Forced induction with DI on a moderate displacement engine (2.5L roughly) 4 or 6 seems likely what we will see. Hopefully the internals are done well like on more recent VQ's so the stock short block will hold together when you turn up the boost. :D

I have to ask, do you know anything about building power?

dude... my 98 GSX was making over 380awhp on a stock block and I spent less then 3k.. I agree with you 100%

and last time I checked small displacement v-8s were making upwards of 700hp with FI

The smaller motor will have a lower upper power limit... Displacement is king, even with today's tech. The current motor responds to boost well and provides some great numbers

mmm GSX... Il never forget the time I drove my friends 600awhp one with a stripped down interior, AC delete, and some handling mods. THAT was a fun car

I would hope with a factory FI option, it would be built to handle more boost. It should provide much better bang for your buck in terms of just bolt on mods with a tune. That is what a large majority of people get anyways.

Thank you for proving my point exactly. The Z's engine can make 500+ whp on stock block and small displacement v-8s can easily do 700. It will take a seriously built 4 banger to put up those kind of numbers and I am skeptical it would even be possible on pump gas.

had it not met an untimely end... I would have had 600awhp... lol

I was talking displacement tho...small displacement as in 2.8L...

I have a friend who had a 760awhp 1st gen eclipse.. inline4... huge turbo.. pump gas... revved like a mofo too..

You make the same mods on a bigger engine and you'd have more power.

edit:
A 2.8L-3.0L v-8 in our Zs would get me excited. If they downgrade to 4-banger I won't be purchasing the next model

they won't put a I4 in a z... they would designate that the new silvia... no way nissan is dumb enough to do that..

but what do you need MORE then 700whp for? I mean really?

and personally a v6 is just fine
