Hey guys/gals!
Today is pretty exciting for me since I found out I might be able to get a 370z sooner than I thought. Today me and my parents went to look at a cheap 2000 S10 V6 for only $1,500. It needs quite a bit fixed, but since my dad used to own his own shop it's pretty easy fixes. We got the main things fixed already and we are gonna clean it up real nice and resell it for about $5,000. Now I discussed with my parents that since I want a 370z and they like mine if when they sell it I can get the money and they just take my car and I make the payments myself on the 370z and use the 5k for a down payment. Which they agreed luckily. So now all I have to do is find a job and they are gonna put the S10 up for sale in about a month probably. So hopefully I can find a job soon, no one wants to hire a 16yr old (17 July 26) with only 2 months experience dishwashing. ): Also does anyone know if it would be possible to find a Touring/Sport/6MT with navigation with 5k down or would they be to expensive for 5k to be to little since I wanna stay around $450 a month. Also, if I can't get the navigation does anyone know if you can add it on later? I love how the nav looks in the 370z. Sorry for the long post, I'm super excited! Well, any answers will be appreciated! ![]() |

Sorry to crush your dreams, but you're going to have to look for a used one to keep your payment that low.
Sport + Nav + Touring = MSRP of $40k+ BEFORE taxes and financing costs. After tax and financing you'll be looking at closer to $45k. Just to give you an idea: If you borrowed $30k over 6 years at 3.5% interest rate. Your payment would be $462 a month. Now remember you need to tack on insurance on top of that too (likely another $150+ a month). Even a used Touring + Sport will run you around $32k base, plus tax and financing it would be $36k+ Also to answer your question, you cannot add the factory Nav into the car. People will install aftermarket radio decks that have Nav.

Check out a used 350z or something sub $20k. Go onto craigslist.org and search the classifieds for cars in your area. A 350z will be plenty of fun for a great price. The 370z is much too expensive for your pay grade. Even a new BRZ/FR-S seems too pricey for you. I'd recommend a used: 350z or S2K. I appreciate your curiosity and enthusiasm though.

A used one would likely be close to $29k BEFORE tax and financing costs which would put you near $33k total. Less your $5k down payment you'd be borrowing $28k... which would translate to at least $450 in monthly payments. That doesn't include other things like insurance, maintenance, gas, etc. I was like you when i was 17 and wanted to buy more car than I could afford. I ended up purchasing a 350z but my payment was only $240 a month and I had a steady job. At your age your insurance (even registered under your parents) would likely be close to $200 a month. Have you ever driven a 350z? They are fast, fun, and sexy! If you'd take your mustang over a 350z or S2k, perhaps the 370z is not for you. They are very similar, just have different power levels. And I can assure you, even if your 08 stang is a GT, the 350z is quicker. I like stangs, but I personally think the 08 bodystyle is really ugly. You should just keep your car if you like it, especially if you have NO job and won't be making that much money even if you do have one. Best of luck with your decision.

I really feel for ya kid. I remember being 16 and my parents promising all kinds of nonsense just to get me to shutup and stop thinking about getting a sports car.
Do some research on auto trader for how much an 09 is going for. Then slow down and calculate how much tax title & license is going to cost you because even on 25k it's going to add about 2.3k to that amount. Calculate your interest rate and finally consider how much your insurance is going to go up for a 2 door coupe. The price of the car is never really the issue, it's all the extra baggage that comes along with it that causes problems. Also you're 16, you don't have credit yet. At best your parents are going to have to cosign for you. |

Payments is the easy part. Insurance, maintenance, tires, minor repairs is what will kill ya.
I pay just a few bucks shy of $1k/month for insurance & payment, and easily spend at least as much monthly on gas & whatever else this baby needs. |

If you bought a 370z, at ($23-28k) you have to make over $1000 bucks a month. At 16 years old, working 40+ hrs a week, at minimum wage your looking at 1200 bucks before taxes.. That means no money left for savings, food, clothes, etc..
Wait a few years before you get a 370. Trust me- Take the 5 grand and put it down on a used $8-10,000 WRX or something and you'll still be the coolest guy in school |

At 16, I agree with buying a used, 'slower' car. Like mentioned, used WRX, modded Civic, or hell even a 240sx with a stock swapped SR motor will be fast enough. I recommend the 240 because:
1 - it was my first car...at the age of 23. So I'm a bit biased. 2 - it's RWD, so you can get a feel for how they drive 3 - cheap buy/maintain. SR swapped 240s go for 6-7k on average. less if you're looking for a stock KA motor or the older body style. 4- It's a good platform to learn about cars. Everything is basic. No crazy electronics/gadgets 5 - still in the Nissan family If you're insistent on getting a Z. Good luck, and ![]() |
