Key Fob distance test?

Curious if anyone has performed a Key Fob distance test? I wonder how far or what would happen if the vehicle was started & driven away with the key fob left behind. Would it continue to run & if so for how far. Wondering if it has any anti-car jacking capabilites to it.

So has anyone tried this out? What were your results?

Thanks

It'll run for as long as the car is turned in with the no key detected thing beeping if its like my parents BMWs and mercedes.. never forget the time I got in one of their cars, thought the key was in my pocket only to drive about an hour, turn the car off and realize I was SOL... Couldnt lock OR restart the car.

yah, you would need to stall the car (or shut it off) and run about 20ft i think.

i know i can't start the car in the garage with my fob in the house.

for mine to start, the key has got to be somewhere inside the car, i tried next to it outside the car, door open still nothing, ............ nothing until the fob was inside the car for me...

I've done it and as long as you do not turn the vehicle off, you can keep driving all you want without the fob.

That is NOT cool. I recommend we delete this thread and ignore any further questions regarding this for security purposes.

I would agree with you but I was reminded The Truth, it hurts sometimes. :roflpuke2:

Its not a secret.. I have never driven any car with keyless entry that just turns its self off...

MattP725 07-06-2012 09:48 AM

Changed the battery just a few weeks ago... also it did this before my stereo and I double checked after install to make sure it was plugged in.

Maybe I have a bad antenna... it works but I have to be right against the car for the door to unlock and have to have it close to the center console for the car to start.

how about getting an aftermarket alarm with the secret kill switch with delay? push that, get pulled and thrown out of the car, but just sit there and take some youtube vids, upload while you wait.. :icon17:
