It's true. They do not. I only got 13,500 out of the rears on my first set of Pilot Super Sports.

Pauly 06-22-2012 03:07 PM

the z is capable of over 31 mpg. ive done it. probably wont ever do it again, but it's possible.

Pauly 06-22-2012 03:08 PM

lol i didnt read all the crap in this thread but looks like it went angry!

speedfreek 06-22-2012 03:18 PM

Yea when people say "hey man nice car" or catch them admiring it....I am always quick to tell them the POS doesn't get very good gas mileage. :shakes head:

Then I dump the clutch and floor it as I am leaving.

I was going to call this a classic flame thread. But speedfreak turned it into a slaughterhouse.

This is the kind of sarcasm that lasts a lifetime. You should write for hallmark.:inoutroflpuke:

joe blow: "man this sure is a nice 370 you got here."

Me: "Ya but you should see the lack of cargo space and awd on this thing! what a pile!"

bonfire 06-22-2012 03:37 PM

I didn't buy this car for the gas milage, I bought it because it was sick looking and fast.

With that being said, I was getting around 24 on the hwy stock if I was good to it. After the install of the Gen 3 CAI I noticed that I can get around 30mpg if you consider strictly hwy miles that are not heavy on the pedal. For me, this was unexpected since all I really wanted out of the Stillen was the sound and the extra HP. I didn't even consider what the new CAI would do for me MPG wise.

Allow your car to breath and it will reward you!!

twinturbonet 06-22-2012 03:38 PM

Lol once my Nismo gets to "39 miles" left to empty, I literally watch it the number go down every few minutes. It HAS to be wrong though because I'm shifting under 2500 RPM, light throttling, and I'm not driving 39 miles and it still manages to "evaporate" to "----".

From the Slaughter House, to just plain Funny.

"Nice Car "...."why Thanks, But the POS only seats two people ".

What do you think about the 370Z'z mileage?

We regularly get 25+ mpg avg on a single tank (~21K miles in 16 months). That being said, it is my wife's DD, she drives 90% highway in her daily commute. The avg mpg over the life of the car is under 20 mpg because I like to have fun in it and fun > mpg.

Because if you're basing it off the manufacturer's website then..

I should be getting 26 MPG in my Z.

http://media.ziptied.com/members/fil...n_370Z_MPG.png

I get 27.2mph at 71mph on the highway, when averaged with some back country roads and other driving. If you get much less, you may have a wiggly throttle foot.

MyZ4U2C 06-22-2012 10:11 PM

I get about 20 MPG, I do mostly highway. I don't like the low MPG...but like most here, I didn't buy the Z as a fuel saver...

Tribalpinoy91 06-22-2012 11:17 PM

21 Mpg city/highway for a car like this and it's performance? No complaints here.

I do that sometimes as well.

UNKNOWN_370 06-23-2012 10:02 AM

Your first 5,000 miles you get shytty mileage. Then it improves greatly from 5-15k miles.

And summers are pretty bad for the VQ. Optimum gas mileage will be had between 50-82 degrees. Lower humidity days preferred as well.

Its potential exceeds the 911 and the drivers here in the Porsche driving school love both more than the 911's as they handle much more precisely.

I also want to add that if you follow Porsche closely you know their engineering is very very good. Hence the cost.

My Z overall gets good mileage when I check it. We all know its just the right foot governor that matters.!!!

No matter who is driving it, life is not too bad in the Cayman/Boxster environment. I give it great respect no matter the cost. It works well.

Agreed as someone who has torn apart both 370z and Boxster the Porsche has engineered incredible efficiency into their cars. I will say earlier boxsters do have some terrible design features in motors and transmissions but newer cars seem to have overcome the issues.

My 986 2.7 liter and 2.5 liter Boxsters got about 21 mpg combined and about 26 to 27 highway. Clearly newer boxsters are more efficient but I suspect combined mileage is still in mid 20s.

For me it's tough to compare the $30k Z to $45k Boxster. They really are quite opposite of each other.

Boxster is refined drivers car while Z is a basement bargin sport GT car. The Z packs ton of value But it will never be a match to much lighter balanced Boxster as a refined road car. Now when it comes to performance the Z definitely packs a punch. I'm a long time Porsche club member. Since the 70s. The 370z is truly equivalent of 240z was back in the 70s. Not as well designed as 911 but packing huge value.

As a driver I got bored with boxsters perfect handling. I know that sounds strange but the car on the street was so nueteral and balanced that for me it was boring. The 370z feels very retro to me. I love looking out over that long hood with a car that actually will toss the tail out with very little effort. Yeah Z is not most efficient car but it's built like a tank? This means we can go to the track and beat 370z and not worry about reinforcing every area of the car. Yes it has little foibles such as hot running VQ , ice mode abs issues, and fuel starve but in general the car is bullet proof.

IDZRVIT 06-23-2012 11:26 AM

I just watched a show on the history of the Cobra. There was a scene where the car came into the pits for a tire change. Before the new tire was installed, a pit crew member came over with a bucket of water and just poured it all over the brakes/wheel to cool it off.:driving: Yep, we've come a long way in technology.

REP REP REP REP.:iagree::tiphat:

I its the most perfect analysis of the Z thus far. Eloquently said and it captures the true driver's essence of the 370z. I actually feel the same way on porsche handling. Wayyy to neutral. Leaving some margin of era keeps it fun. The Z is pretty neutral with VDC on. Take it off and its a bucking bronco that somehow still manages, by some miracle, a high level of precision with a trained driver behind the wheel.

RoshDawg 06-23-2012 12:38 PM

I test drove the 911 991 S and wanted to see how an eco run on the freeway would do me. I got about 30 mpg without going downhill. Its rated at 27mpg freeway.

Th3 On3 06-23-2012 12:43 PM

I'm getting about 23.9 mpg

Pretty good IMO

one trip recently from fullerton, ca to san diego, ca netted me 34 mpg, but that was doing a very boring 55mph in the slow lane all the way there lol.

Excellent post. Saw an issue of Top Gear where Jeremy Clarkson evaluated an M3 vs Boxster and he chose the M3 over the Boxster because of the exact reasons you mentioned. Porsche made the Boxster too good (wow, that sounded weird).

Maybe that's the same reason why some people aren't fans of the GTR?

red6spd 06-23-2012 04:17 PM

Did anyone notice that he says the Boxster pretty much spanks the Z in everything but on the Porsche website it shows a 0-60 time of 5.5. I think the Z is faster no?

Magic Bus 06-23-2012 04:25 PM

Yup, sure did. But what I think OP meant by spanked was Boxster gets better gas mileage doing that slower 0 to 60! :rofl2:

MMC Racing 06-23-2012 05:01 PM

Picked up my new Z today and got 25.6 MPG driving it Yuma to San Diego..

edub370 06-24-2012 01:12 PM

i think im averaging between 19-24 sh!ts i still dont give about my mileage
