Hit a deer tonight :(

2 Attachment(s)
So probably the worst night of my life. Hit a deer, front bumber and hood is jacked. The hood wont even open. the radiator has a hole in it because when i got out it was hissing. I was only two blocks from my house so i drove it home.

Does anyone know how insurance policies play out in this case in the state of florida. I have nation wide and im wodering if they will waive my deductible.

Beyond upset wont even sleep tonight!

DEpointfive0 06-18-2012 01:53 AM

As long as YOU'RE ok, that's all you should care about... And I believe you'll have to pay the deductible...

I have almost hit a deer too... How bad did it feel? How fast were you going?

RyanWest 06-18-2012 01:55 AM

i was going the speedlimit because it was right by a cop station. This road is pretty famous for deer but never thought this would happen to me.

11Thumper 06-18-2012 03:00 AM

You're ok that's what counts.

I think in most states this is covered with insurance. Hope you're taken care of.

370Z Purist 06-18-2012 03:32 AM

This should most definitely be covered by insurance. I know some policies are very picky and will only pay for this under comprehensive (meaning a larger deductible) as opposed to collision, due to it being an animal and not necessarily another person in their car, or any of many other insurance-related reasons.

Since you said you were going the speed limit but managed to puncture your radiator, I'd guess 30-40 miles an hour?

That said, you're lucky the deer became lunchmeat and not you. A friend of mine hit a large buck and totaled the car completely. It was a small rural road with a 55 mph limit so the deer came in through the windshield and broke his arm.

Good to hear you're fine. Forgive the random story.

Zenki370 06-18-2012 05:41 AM

Like others have said, the most important thing is that you are ok. I was in a car that hit a deer once, luckily it jumped and the car was low enough that the fender just clipped the legs so we didnt have the major impact of hitting one. Your insurance should cover it, but most likely under comprehensive. I hope there is nothing wrong structually. Make sure you take the car to a body shop that you know and trust. If you dont have one, ask the local nissan dealer who they use for their repairs as a start.

Versa_Drifter 06-18-2012 05:42 AM

Did u kill it?

Huck 06-18-2012 06:12 AM

That's probably a yes.

A quick googling brings up:

Nationwide - Fender bender with a deer customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings

Nationwide insurance deductibles? - Yahoo! Answers

:tiphat: Glad to hear you're okay.

Couldn't help but posting this...

Never take the deer home with you!:mad::icon14: This is considered poaching in most states, especially if you do not have a hunting license and it is not deer season. If you want to take the deer home as a trophy and are caught you will be slapped with a huge fine, lose your hunting privileges and Fish and Game will seize your trophy. It’s just not worth the risk. :shakes head:
:bowrofl: Dunno why but that just makes me laugh...

blackcherry20 06-18-2012 06:48 AM

I have hit three deer (no damage-thank god!) and at least that many raccoons (stoopid coons) with several thousand dollars worth of damage-go figure. Never got any guff from insurance company. Did have to pay the deductible however...no breaks even if it's an animal. Glad you're OK- this could have been really bad.

kenchan 06-18-2012 07:10 AM

Sorry to hear. Glad ure OK though. Yes, insurance should cover that, talk to ur agent and file a claim. :)

PapoZalsa 06-18-2012 07:26 AM

Glad you are OK. The insurance should pay for it minus your deductible.

:iagree: I am glad you are OK and your insurance should take care of it. Do you get to keep the meat? It is already tenderized courtesy of the Z.

As Chris mentioned before, taking the deer back with you is considered poaching... Living in Wisconsin for school, I asked a friend of mine what happens if he were to run over a deer.

Well, first, you call Fish and Game, who will either instruct you to shoot if if you're a hunter with a valid license, or they will shoot it themselves if the deer is still alive. At that point, various things happen, since you can technically only keep it if you've got a valid hunting license, but at the same time, only during the proper season and only if you've got a tag... the story was long and convoluted, and I'm sure any hunter will have a better idea, but long story short...

You can't keep the meat! TenderiZed as it is. Could go for a venison sausage for breakfast right now. :yum:

thought the exact same thing , last year sometime during their " mating" season, i knew if i took the backroads my car would get smashed.

i took the Main road to avoid the deer and guess what? dang deer STILL found me. coming home and down the hill at around 930 pm that night i saw it hop the fence and begin walking out right infront of me, i slowed down to 15-20 mph, and blared the horn, thinking to scare it the other way right? errr wrong, it ran right at the car, and collided with the driver side left front fender and slid the entire length of my car, got up and ran off. i was so mad. cursing and chasing the dang thing. wasnt too too bad, but still left a nice dent in the fender.

:mad: just goes to show you..... Expect the Unexpected.:eekdance:

RyanWest 06-18-2012 11:12 AM

LakeShow 06-18-2012 02:17 PM

Sometimes, the warden will be really cool and sell you a tag on the spot, as long as you are eligible to purchase a tag. they also started this new thing where testing for CWD. but honestly, whether I would take the deer or not depends on how it was hit. if the stomache was ruptured, thats going to be hell to clean and take the meat, in which case you can also choose to donate the carcass to a hunter's safety course to help teach little kids how to field dress a deer.

Must say, if you are ever in wisconsin, call the local sheriff before the game warden. I've eaten roadkill before. hell, nothing really beats ~50 lbs of free meat.

didymus 06-18-2012 03:26 PM

Pics? That sucks, deer are really dangerous and can come through a windshield. I hit one a long time back, but just clipped it on the corner bumper.

axmea? 06-18-2012 07:04 PM

You're ok so the car did it's job protecting you. Funny how some thought of taking the deer home for sausages and protein. Can't imagine a deer fitting the back of a Z. Now the bright side is that you now have a good excuse to buy either an Amuse, Concept 20 or a Zele for your car :)

:iagree:Deductibles suck , sorry :-(

ZeeingAround 06-18-2012 08:55 PM

no big deal on the deductible, now you can get some aftermarket fenders, CF hood and new paint, which is what the front of the car needs most...
Turn this negative deer accident into a modification positive.

Same thing happened to me with my 88 Pathfinder. Got a killer two tone paint job and Boyd wheels and tires + all the new parts.

Thechidz 06-18-2012 09:27 PM

should be comprehensive, which isn't necessarily larger deductible. I have $500 on both collision and comp. better if its comp because they wont raise your premium, glad you're ok

370zproject 06-18-2012 11:51 PM

glad your ok just be glad it wasnt a buck and did not go through the windsheild

Kenny 06-19-2012 01:07 AM

yea.. good thing it didn't go through the windshield and hurt you..

Can't say the same for what happened to this dude.

Porsche vs. Chicken at 160 mph.

depending on the deer, should fit if you quarter right on the road. I always keep extra garbage bags for roadkill. Most carcasses fit in any vehicle if you cut it into enough pieces.

Deer are a constant part of my life too. I've hit two but never quite so hard. Pay deductible or out of pocket if it isn't too much more. (I doubt but hope for you.)

Good luck, this stinks, move on, and in awhile, it will be a memory.

Hello 'Ryan West'

atx370z 06-19-2012 01:29 PM

Oh Deer!!

RyanWest 06-19-2012 05:35 PM

just got a photo update from nation wide. car will be done in 3 days. guess it wasnt that bad after all.

Good thing is, i needed the front bumber and hood resprayed anyways. :)

ernie 06-19-2012 06:10 PM

I hit a deer in Wisconsin @ 70+ mph, $4,800 damage and that was at 1985 prices, got my car back, 2 weeks later, almost same spot. (within 200') hit another at 70+, $4,800.00 damage, insurance company dropped me. same exact damage, drivers side, 1 buck was a 10 pointer, antlers broke the windshield, could not open doors. second was a 6 pointer, exact same thing. I hate deer, to me they are rodents that have killed thousands of people. I am not an animal lover, I am old and believe man has rights, thats why GOD put us at the top of the food chain.

RyanWest 06-19-2012 06:16 PM

They better not raise my rate. Ill be calling tomorrow to ask about this. Ive only had two accidents that wernt even my fault. However i do have some tickets mostly in 08 and some recently that are going to fall off.

tonythetiger 06-19-2012 06:21 PM

dang! sorry for that happened to ur ride, glad ur safe!

FastPaced 06-19-2012 06:53 PM
