I've gotten as low as 4,3 and as high as 5.6 in my auto. Staying below. 5 is common for me BUT all the factors mentioned above will affect you. When I get in the range of 5.3 to 5.6 though. I almost always have fvked up a shift point or two on the paddles.

Also, if you start your timer when you first press the accelerator from a dead stop at idle, it will be very slow. Since you were driving an AT, there's a good chance that's how the OP started accelerating. To get a good launch, you need your revs up around 3k before setting off. That's easy in a manual, not so easy in an auto. In an AT, you'd have to brake-stand or neutral drop to achieve this, which I doubt he did.

The 0-60 time for a stock 370Z is around 5.4 secs. The people on this site claiming sub 5 seconds are either driving heavily modified Z's or are high.

Base auto maybe. Otherwise you are very wrong.

Actually the auto tends to test out at the same or slightly faster 0-60 than the manual. For example Car and Driver got a 4.6 in the auto and a 4.8 in the manual.

The 5.4 number is more in line with a 350Z than a 370Z in most tests.

agreed

just because one magazine posts a 4.6 or sub 5 doesn't mean everyone who jumps into a Z will be pulling a sub 5 0-60

I agree that the auto is quicker than the manual. Does anyone think they can shift faster and smarter than a computer using today's advanced transmissions? But 0-60 in 4.6 seconds for a stock 370Z? Seriously? You don't actually believe this do you? A $100,000 BMW MW barely pulls 4.6-4.7 seconds. Hell, a Nissan GTR does it in 4.2, you really think a Z is only 4/10ths of a second slower?

BigT 06-15-2012 12:49 PM

Um, the GTR does it in 2.9.

You are not very smart. A gtr does it in 2.8. And why is the nismos time faster stock for stock if auto is better? It may shift slightly quicker.. but you can't launch auto like a manual.

The new GTR just tested 0-60 in 2.7 seconds...older ones are 3.2, don't have any idea where you got that 4.2.

for the 370Z 0-60 a quick sampling...

Top Speed - 4.5

Car and Driver - 4.6

Motor Trend -4.7

Road And Track (NISMO) - 5.0

Edmunds - 5.1

0-60 calculator 0-60 mph Calculator for Cars - 4.6

All these guys must be wrong so let's go look at Dragtimes 1/4 miles above.....wait, their times bear out theses 0-60 numbers reflected in their times as well.

There are lots of variables with 0-60 times, as well as with your method of measurement.

The other thing to keep in mind that is that magazines post times with rollout.

Well this is your answer. Literally all of these reasons is why your time was so slow. I have a 12 nismo and i got a 4.5 stock with minimal tire prep.

The Automatic transmission is generally faster than the manual, but also keep in mind that the Nismo is slightly more powerful (20hp or so) and is capable of carrying more tire in the rear stock.

Either way, I tend to agree with "who cares" as the leading argument here.

Phenix 06-15-2012 02:23 PM

How much mileage was on the car? Most new cars don't make good power until they've done some miles. And also since it was just a test drive you probably haven't perfected the technique.

The simple response would have been - "Sorry, that's as good as it gets with a Z. Maybe you should look into a V6 Camaro? They are iPhone friendly!" :tiphat:

LakeShow 06-15-2012 04:31 PM

Maybe you should check out the V6 Camry.
