Do I have sport pkg?
Hey guys I'm new to this forum. I bought a base 370z 7AT few weeks ago and the seller said it came with the sport pkg. After a few weeks of driving I notice my brakes calipers wasn't the same as the one on other base with sport pkg. Mine look like the one from the base with no sport pkg but my Z have the spoiler and the front chin and it also have the 19" RAYS. I'm not sure if it have VLSD cause I don't know how to check if it does. So, I went to the dealer today to ask about this. They said my Z don't have the upgraded sport brakes?! I'm shock..can this possible? How can a dealer said it have sport pkg but without upgraded brakes? I'm soooo confused about this. They gave me only two option, buy the upgradesd brakes or trade that car in for one that have the "sport
Package"...:icon14: |
sport package should have the sport caliper brakes.
to check VLSD, put chocks on your front tire, your car in neutral with one rear tire on the ground, turn the other rear one in the air by hand. if it free spins you got an open diff. |
Hmmm...
Does it show you what gear you are in displayed on the gauge cluster? |
The little orange circle...?

On one the three gauges? Or the little one near the rpm? There is a little one near the rpm.
|
rpm
|
Than yes it does.
|
so sounds like someone swapped out their akebono's before selling...
|
I thought all 7AT had the little gear showing though?
|
oh... yah, im not familiar with AT.. if it was there on a MT, then that means SRM which is on sportpackage.
|
OP should just do a burn out, if it lays down 2 marks its sport package.
|
Dealer should be able to look it up by Vin number, no?
I mean, it could be a non-sport that added rims and spoiler after the fact, or it could even be a sports package that did a brake swap to the smaller rotors/calipers/pads. It's rare, but it wouldn't be the first time. |

Steering lock? How do I go and find out where that is?
|
Easiest thing to do is call Nissan customer service give them your VIN or go to a dealership and have them look it up.

2012's nissan stopped using the dreaded steering locks due to random failure on previous model years. you can check by turning the steering while the car is off. |
What's vslcd?
|
Well the good news is that it would be easy to install the sport brakes and you could probably find a set for under 1k on the forum... try the VLSD test (wonder if it would work since it isn't a real LSD but worth a shot).

I am sure OP can identify (with the help of the dealership) what a spoiler looks like and what the 19" wheels look like. He also stated he has smaller calipers and rotors than other cars with the sport package. |

Well if he actually does have the sport package, then he would have the SRM? If no SRM & no big brakes, then no sport package. I would think that one who is buying a car would know exactly what the options are.
|
If that was MT then yes there would be a srm sw.
|
sport package
If the rear end/pumpkin is black, than non-sport; if silver than sport.
|
The aero bits (rear spoiler, front chin spoilers...) on the sports pack are available to non-sport Zs as the aero package. I believe all the 7-speed autos downshift-rev-match, so the only giveaway would be the open rear-diff, and checking the VIN.
|
Well, I spent the whole day at the dealer trying to figure out why the non sport caliper and smaller rotor was on my car cause I found out my Z do have VLCD cause I tried that test with the one wheel in the air and one on the ground. After a few hours, they found the sport caliper and bigger rotor was in a box..in the back in the parts department...wow. They put on the bigger rotor for me and the caliper and I'm a happy camper now. Lol, thanks for the help guys!
|
i'm confused. glad your happy..
but i would be wondering how the cheaper or smaller brakes got on there in the first place.. did you buy car brand new 0 miles..... sounds like someone jacked with your ride.. and were going to sale the bigger brakes out the back door................. |
It had only 24 miles on it. They didn't have a reason why it was off it and why the smaller brakes was on it. I asked them a couple of time also but no reason. Told them to check the brakes and rotors again to see if it's damage or anything was wrong with them, they check and put it on my car. They drove around with it and I was in the car, seems fine to me though.

But, that's just me. Did you buy used or new? If new, they come out of the shipping containers ready to sell minus some things (like the NISMO suspension blocks or whatever they are). No need to swap calipers or anything stupid. |

honestly i thought sport packages come out of the factory with everything less the front diffuser installed. :) |

They just HAPPENED to find a box with the brakes in the back??? Either one of the tech's tried to pull a fast one so he could sell/install the brakes on a non-sport or the dealership itself is crooked and was going to offer it as an option to a non-sport... There is a good chance they tried to swap them on your car to finalize a deal with someone buying a non-sport model. Call/write Nissan ASAP. Congrats though! Still check for the LSD ASAP though just incase. |
Indeed, I am writing a letter to Nissan right now about this "box". I'm going to another Nissan dealer tomorrow to check the LSD. I already test it myself by doing what "kenchan" (first page) told me to do to check for LSD. But I'm not sure if they going to do the same thing but I just want to make sure.
|
If it was used, it would have made sense, but it does look like they tried to pull a fast one.
I know my friends who had a G35 with brembos and a touring 350z without them swapped the calipers before trading in at a chevy dealer, so its not out of the question that could have happened, but not on a new car. In fact, anyone thinking of trading in their sport package car would do financially well to swap brakes + cash with a base person near them if trading in, especially at a non nissan dealership. |
WOW....... Those crazy MOFO SOB's. I'm glad they set things straight for you. The bigger rotors & brakes look 10x's better than the small brakes/rotors.

this is why track guys will sometimes buy the base without sport package and get their preferred bbk, new LSD, new wheels. |

Holy crap this is scary! This is why you research the vehicle immensely before buying especially if you're dropping so much money. Its scary to think a dealership would do that to someone http://serve.mysmiley.net/scared/scared0008.gif
Glad you got everything worked out http://serve.mysmiley.net/happy/happy0025.gif |
