Re: My earlier post in this thread

I do occasionally get the delay between pressing the start button and the engine cranking. It doesn't happen very often and I have not been able to identify any pattern.
Someone reported that pulling the fuse affected passenger airbag function - maybe the two are related. I can't recall if I had a passenger when I got the delays.

Anyhow sorry if I confused anyone.

You have dashed my only hope of figuring out the delay. Thanks alot! :p
I do appreciate you pointing it out. I missed that when I was scrolling through the replies. Here's a real one: Thanks!

I'd still like to know why the delay and, especially, why not every time? Maybe someone will come up with an answer some day. <heavy sigh>

hmmmm I sometimes reach over and hit the start button while closing the door but haven't noticed if I get the door closed before I hit the button. It would make sense, since the door ajar switch and the steering lock unit are all part of the security system. I will have to investigate. Thanks for the info.
I'm going to the dealer for an oil change tomorrow, maybe one of the mechanics can shed some light.

Edit: Just tried it with the door open and no delay on four starts.

steering lock failure

So i have a quick question about this fix. Mine went bad completely, but i got the new part from the dealership and they said i could plug it in a disable it and than bring it back to them. Will the fuse fix work if i disable it with the working part in and than once disabled throw my old one back in? Trying to avoid the cost of the part.

As long as your old one is in the unlock position,if it is then you shouldn't need the new part.you can remove the fuse as it is in the unlock position if it is not then you will have to get the new one installed then pull the fuse and leave the new steering lock in the car.

Is there a poll for this issue anywhere?

Not that I'm aware of ,I didn't put one in this thread.

A poll on who has the steering lock issue could be valuable for convincing Nissan to do something. Can someone do this?

They won't do anything that's why some of the 11's don't have it and none of the 12's or 13's have it.

Do everyone a favor, file a complain and force a recall

I would suggest more people try this way of getting the point across, they can't deny it if all the complaints are formal

:iagree: they don't want to do anything but if enough of us complain formally like you were suggesting in the other thread then they may actually be forced to put out a recall or at least a TSB.

When I tried to get mine they were on restricted order,I ask the parts guy what that means he said usually that there is a problem with a part so Nissan freezes all sales of the part to use them as warranty replacements so they don't have to order any more from the manufacture that makes them.
But he also said that it won't be a recall.

LMBmikeZ 11-27-2012 08:42 PM

^^ but he's a parts guy not a guy at corp he doesn't really know....... IMO

Plus if there is enough problems with them then legally they will required to resolve the problem. Another reason why we need more formal complaints!
