get nismo now or wait for 2013
I'm about to pull the trigger on a brand new 2012 nismo. The deal seems great, the dealer stated $500 over dealer invoice plus tax & DMV fees. The car has 14 miles on the odometer and MSRP is approx. $42,200. I have some questions though: What exactly should I be paying for this car, I believe between 37 & 38,000 plus tax & DMV fees. I like that the 2012 nismo has an oil cooler but should I wait a couple more months for the 2013 which I heard will have some upgrades. At the same time I'm thinking this price is too good to pass up. I probably won't get a good deal on a 2013 when they first come out. Please advise me. thanks.

get the 2012
/thread |
I paid $1400 below invoice when I bought mine (non-nismo). As for upgrades, the 2013 has a new front bumper and new Rays wheels and that's it as far as I know. IMO, it looks worse than the current one so I would def get the 2012, but looks are subjective.

your sig says you already have a 370, any reason why you are getting another one?
|
No indication that the 2013 Nismo will be any different... the changes are for the non-Nismo.
Not sure how much better of a deal you will get on a Nismo since they generally are more sought after. |

Get the 12' Nismo.......
|
13' Nismo has only dark colored Rays, red brakes, slight insignificant brake upgrades, and upgraded stereo. Is it worth it over a 12', not exactly. A deal on a 12' now probably couldn't be matched. Could you dig the Nismo interior after having Touring and Nav?

Ur serious??? INSIGNIFICANT brake upgrades. Better pads and a brake cooling kit is NOT minor. As catastrophic our brakes can be on a track without brake cooling and better pads I would hardly call it insignificant. Get the 2013 if you plan on tracking your car? The upgrades should be good enough for it to be track capable. If you don't plan on doing any kind of off road events then maybe this current deal may be ideal? We only know what nissan has written. Count on it that nissan only tells you half of what will be in the package. Right before the NISMO'S release we will know the full details on the Z lineup. As of yet there's no power upgrades and possibly won't be any... but, other functionality upgrades may be surprisingly good? |

If the OP LOVES OEM upgraded stereos and slightly dark wheels vs silver, then the 13 nismo is right, if not, then save $$$ and get the 12. |

2013 Nissan 370Z First Look - 2012 Chicago Auto Show - Automobile Magazine - Mobile But I did read another article where they said they are redesigning the NISMO pads for better track use in 2013. in that article though they didn't specify if it was for the car, s tune or r tune... I guess I just assumed it would go on the nismo. Again my bad... either way though. Even the line upgrade is a huge safety measure and is far from insignificant. Since there are no styling changes... I would wait and see how much they will really do. Nissan never says everything. Like the oil cooler. We found out 2 weeks before the car was released. When the future spec sheet hit the nissan website 2 months earlier. It stated NO changes. It turned out we got the oil cooler. And I do know of a lot of tweaks on the Z most don't know about. Having had an 09 and now an 11. I can tell you there's a big difference in ride quality and engine harshness. So I would wait. |
Brake liens are a pretty inexpensive upgrade to do yourself so if he's getting a good deal on the '12, I think that's the way to go. As for pads, almost everyone changes out their pads for the track also.

TBH, at this point, I'm over the 370z and eagerly anticipating the the Z35 and what (hopefully) it will bring to the table to address all the Z34's weak points. Looking at nissan's production history with the 350 z as a benchmark, there's only 2 more years of 370z production left (13 and 14) and then they'll retire the platform at the 6 year mark and either wait one year or immediately bring in the new model. /\ off topic, but IF it were me, I'd be very very tempted to just wait it out and then buy the next gen Z. You can get into a 350z Nismo for around 20-22K iirc and that would tide you over for 2-3 years and save serious $$$ until the new Z is out. my 2cents. |

If you believe the preliminary spec sheet is the end all be all to the update list they provided 5 months before release then hey... knock yourself out. 6 nissans and 2 infiniti's later... I'm pretty sure that's a partial list. But hey that's just my opinion and opinions are like.... :ugh2: |

Hahaha... I don't know about being over the 370z? But I am already contemplating the Z35. I will not trade my Z. But I will buy a next gen and add it to the stable IF it comes FI and reduced weight. Oh and Op bough 3 cars in 4 years... lol. He will probably trade next year again. Lol. |

Other option for a thrid car is an evo mr if they still make them in a few years or if the next gen STI gets the option for a dual clutch or MAYBE, a used GTR. We'll see, either way, when i limp over to the grocery store, I want to be ballin in my sporty car that I can't really drive the way it was meant to. :icon17: If the next gen Z is truely game changing, ie dct, FI, etc etc. Then we may stay with two cars and just unload the 370z. Only time and budget will tell. |

I'd like to see what the Nismo wheels for 2013 look like before purchasing a 2012 but probably not enough to impact my decision. Everything else is trivial.

Thanks to everybody for the feedback. Your comments & perspectives were good food for thought. I have made a decision, It looks like I'll be taking delivery of a 2012 370Z NISMO in white exterior tomorrow/Saturday. The car is brand new with about $2,100 off MSRP & 0% financing for 60 months. No trade in. I originally was getting a silver nismo at a different dealer until I found out the birdbrains mounted the front license plate bracket on the bumper & then began raising the pre negotiated price. Holes in front bumper= me no likey. Anyway, I think I like the white color better, you can really see the pearl gloss in the sun. Please let me know if this sounds like a good deal. I hope for no BS upon delivery tomorrow. I'll post pics hopefully soon. Thanks.

I had a similar dilemma though it was between a '12 NISMO and an EVO X...and did not think the '13 NISMO was worth waiting for personally...Bought my '12 NISMO for a similar deal: $500 over invoice, 0% financing for 60 months.... One way I look at it, is that my '12 NISMO is essentially a lease that I get to keep after 5 years or less depending on how I want to pay for it... It is a no brainer IMHO. Go with the 2012, I personally have no regrets, love my NISMO!!!.... human nature always wants the next best thing... sometimes you just got to go with your heart... kind of like getting married:rofl2: ... just make sure you are in love with what you settle on....and your finances are in order to make it work.;)
