what am i doing wrong ?
what should i do ?

every time i switch gears on high revs my tires always, always always slips.
from 1st to 2nd. from 3rd to 4th and from 5th to 6th as well.
without mentioning that i feel like i lose a lot power from 1st to 2nd -__-
help me out here guys. what am i doing wrong ?

kenchan 04-27-2012 04:43 PM

tires or happy right foot?

NYBladeZ 04-27-2012 04:43 PM

Assuming you are on the RE05's its possible you're tires just aren't getting warm enough. the RE05 is a good tire, not a great tire so yeah man you're going to be chirping tires. If it really bothers you then opt for some better tires like Michelin Super Sports or don't redline through the gears.

LakeShow 04-27-2012 04:50 PM

The stock Bridgestones suck.

theboydiddy 04-27-2012 05:02 PM

REALLY ???? Bridgestones sucks ?
before i purchased my Z i made a few research on them and I've read and heard so many good things about it =(
i know i am not redlining it and i am 100% sure that my tires are slipping.
I've took the "vdc" (i think is called) off and i can hear them. i had my brother watch me as well. i tried giving more gas when switching gear, less gas, letting the clutch go quick, letting the clutch go slow. i think I've tried at all except for switching tires, which i am not. not right now.
it only happens when I'm switching those gears at 4500-5000RPM

:iagree: Are you running the right amount of psi in the tires & are they pretty much bald?

koeppelnissan 04-27-2012 05:26 PM

Tires cant be bald, you just picked it up a few weeks ago. Swing by I'll take a spin with you!

Exactly what he said. I got it for a month only and haven't driven crazy with it as much.

I'll see the best day to pass by Joe

bigdog1250 04-27-2012 05:46 PM

Perhaps you are just dumping the clutch each time? Try easing the clutch out

Vbp6US 04-27-2012 05:53 PM

Me too! Oh wait my tires are bald though and I don't drop the clutch at 5k rpm. :D

Let Joe show you how to rip up the Z lol.

Dwight Frye 04-27-2012 05:57 PM

NFW are you breaking the tires loose between 5th & 6th:gtfo2:

I'm looking forward to that

Skeeterbop 04-27-2012 06:54 PM

I don't think mine have broke traction on the 3-4 shift yet alone 4-5 or 5-6. SLippery roads maybe?

It was a piece of cake for me after the stock Potenzas had 10K miles (never been in a position to try it 5-6)

Vbp6US 04-27-2012 07:02 PM

Willing to bet it's just his light coming on and not really breaking traction. Just a thought.

B&W_Evader 04-27-2012 07:12 PM

Have you really lit them up. Done some donuts or brake stands? If you roast your tires you can mess up the vulcanization of the rubber and they will be runined.

Snakes709 04-27-2012 07:21 PM

370z drag race - YouTube This is me when i had my 370z. Is it this sound you are hearing when i shift? As in the tires chirping?

theboydiddy 04-27-2012 08:01 PM

no i have not really lit them up
no i haven't done donuts with it. not interested
no the pavement isn't wet neither.
the light comes on yes, but i feel the car holding it back. i hear my tires, it just feels wrong. i feel like i lose a lot power when switching gears as well and i had my brother watch me before. he said the same thing. the tires slip too much when i switch gears as well. and i gotta have at least 80% on those tires.
I've tried doing with "VDC" (i think is called) off too.

theboydiddy 04-27-2012 08:05 PM

i raced my boy on the track in english town jersey just to play around.
he had an audi 2008-2009 A4 sedan Automatic. i lost. every time i switched gears he got ahead of me. -_- i was pissed because i know the Z is much lighter and faster then his car.
i did give him a head start.... but still

You took the VDC Off and your tires slip... hmmm, did everyone miss that little tidbit of important info or is it just me...?

i think i ran low 14's. Track was prepped horrible that night (as you can see the guy mopping the coolant that was left by one of the cars) That blinking light is the "airbag" warning light because i removed the passenger seat.

but it seems like that Z is running beautiful.

kyz12 04-27-2012 09:52 PM

what were your times at english town when u raced your boy?

buddyZ 04-27-2012 09:54 PM

Hey guys whats the break in period for these cars? im at 670 miles and barely gone over 5k rpm and the few times i did i got the same traction light.

Well the owner's manual says 1,200 miles & not to pass 4k rpms & something about no excessive acceleration & no constant speeds & something about no hard braking.

wdkwang 04-28-2012 01:53 AM

i dunno what the others have said but i have no issues with the re050's unless i'm gonna peel out while the tires are still cold. otherwise if i give at least 5 minutes on the road to get some heat into the tires (even in 30F weather), even under powershifting, there may be some very slight squirrelly-ness (pretty much no spin if its relatively warm out) between shifts but completely controllable with minor corrections on the steering wheel.
and oh yeah, fuk vdc.

mhcoss 04-28-2012 02:51 AM

if its cold out my tires break loose easy.

Snakes709 04-28-2012 08:34 AM

Have you checked the tire pressure? When i got my car i never checked it until i was at the strip and did a few runs. The dealership set my pressure to 47psi.

koeppelnissan 04-28-2012 09:11 AM

When Nissan delivers cars to dealers, the tires are set close to 50 psi to avoid flat spots during storage. Many vehicles are not corrected before being delivered to customers. I personally checked his tire pressure and corrected it before delivery!

No idea. We got there rally late. They were closed already. The guy was very nice to let us have one run down. Clocks were off

Manual says 1200 miles. I waited until 2000 miles.

No matter the weather. No matter if my tires cold or hot. My always slips. Always.

Joe I was actually reading the manual and the gas tank door is supposed to lock when away from the car without the keyfob, just like the driver and passenger doors. Mine isn't quite working that way. What can we do about that ?

DIGItonium 04-28-2012 05:27 PM

If you're rough in 1st, jerk the car in between shifts, hit a bump or pot hole, etc., the slip lights will light up. It just means there is enough differential in speed of the wheels to trip the indicator, so it doesn't necessarily mean you're losing traction. When that happens, the car will try to correct itself by cutting power and apply braking where necessary.

It really is slipping though. However what you just stated it does happens at times, I know exactly what you talking about. Thanx a lot, that really helps. I'll try that

what he said... can't think of a mechanical issue that would cause this unless you were waaay over/under inflated or broken shaft / suspension... unlikely if you just picked up the car

stop "popping" the clutch... if that's what you're doing, then try practicing clutch releases on a dirt road... once you can do it right there, you'll be fine on pavement
