I hate to tell you but it isn't what you think. It's actually a shrunken 1958 Edsel Grill. Of course my dearly departed father thought of that grill in the same manner then as we are now thinking of the key fob.

It's random for me... sometimes I'll have it behind the passenger seat, hung over the rear view mirror, in my pocket, but most of the time it goes into the center drink holder.

i hate driving with things in my pocket for some reason. it's just not comfy for me. so it goes in the cup holder in the middle.

Looks like I'm the only one to vote passenger's seat. I either just toss it there or keep it in my gym bag that I leave in there.

Well, they're bucketseat-esque... You'd be surprised, with a key that small, the inertia is so low and small it doesn't go anywhere.
Simple physics keep that key in place.

Although I do question what you'd do if someone was riding shotgun... tell them to hold it?

I've become accustomed to leaving my key fob in my pocket ... the guy at the dealership told me the slot for the key fob charges your key fob.

What? Last I heard there are no rechargeable CR2032 batteries in existence.

You should know better than to believe anything they tell you at the dealership. ;)

Heh, now I'm going to throw you for another loop. The manual says that the fobgina is there in case your battery runs low, then you can still start your car by sticking it in the fobgina, right? Well get this. I can't remember who it was, but someone told me that our ignition runs on RFID, and the battery isn't even required to start the car -- the battery is for the remote operations only, like locking/unlocking, panic button, etc. So I decided to put this claim to the test. I removed the battery from my fob completely, went and sat in my car, hit the start button, and guess what? It fired right up! So it really doesn't make sense for the manual to say that if your battery runs low you can stick it into the fobgina to start the car, because you don't need any battery whatsoever to start the car! It's bizarre.

The hell?

Wait, so what if it had no battery and you were outside?
Try opening the door using the button. The trunk should behave the same way too. If that works then... well, just now you go right next to your car and use the buttons. Isn't that how most people do it? I never actually press anything on the fob.

I'm not 100% sure because it's been a while since I conducted this little experiment, but I want to say that hitting the button to unlock the door did not work. So if your battery were dead, you'd have to detach the key from the fob to gain entry. But once inside the car, you can just put the fob back in your pocket and hit the start button as usual.

Well, whoever said that the key works on RFID may be right; but it doesn't work without a battery. The car likely sends a signal, which the keyfob is supposed to recognize and then send an acknowledgment signal.

I just did the above and everything, and you still need the key in the "fobgina" (:roflpuke2:) for it to acknowledge you're authorized.

So yeah, your keyfob needs the battery to work.

Yep, you're right. I got my memory wires crossed on this one. The battery can be completely dead or even removed, but you still need to insert it into the fobgina for the car to start. The manual only references if the battery is low, so it kinda implies that you still need some tiny bit of juice in the battery in order for it to work. But that's not the case.

i dont feel comfortable when i have something in my pockets. so i always empty out everything Inside the center armrest.
