New 2012 or Used 2009

I'm getting a 370z this week and am torn between 2 different cars. New 2012 Sport, Touring with Navigation or a Used 2009 Sport w/o Nav with only 3500 miles on it. I obviously want the new vehicle, but there is about a $10,000 difference between the 2 cars. I would have to add an aftermarket nav unit to the 2009 and get some scratches fixed on it as well. This will narrow the price difference to about 7k. I know it's a personal decision but does anyone who already owns one have any input on what would make a 2012 with Nav/camera 7k better than the used one?

Thanks for the input and thoughts!

I would get the new 370Z hands down. The reason is that you are the first owner & there should only be b/w 6-30 miles on the car. Another thing is that Nissan is offering a 0% interest up to 60 months on any 370Z & 2.99% interest for 72 months. Yeah the '09 does have low miles, but what would your interest rate be?

12 will come with the factory oil cooler, plus the other minor updates that have happened since the 09.

i'd go with the 12 (for all the reasons the above poster said too!)

If you happen to go with the 09 make sure it has the new steering wheel lock.

If modding and personal car improvement like body kits and such are things you are interested in doing? Get the used... if you are going to do very minimal modding and just want a nice stock car. Go NEW. You'll have more mod money that way if u want mods.

if you gonna keep it stock, get the 12. modding it? get the 09. the Z is a solid car either way.

Get the 12 with 0%, say you financed 35,000 at 4.5% you would be paying $4,150 in interest. Used car rates are higher as well even though you wouldn't finance as much. So at this point you're a couple grand cheaper to buy a car that's about to be 4 model years old. Regardless of the miles the resale on the 12 will make up that difference, if you want one more reason there's the entire warranty left on the new car; if you buy a used car warranty with 3/36K bumper to bumper no deductible it'll cost a couple grand.

No brainer, go with the '12 if you can afford to...fully loaded and 3 years new for only 10k more? Uh, yeah sign me up

He could probably get a better interest rate than that barring he has good credit. I got my used 2010 a year ago for around 2.4% for 72 months and I got the Nissan Wrap 100K bumper to bumper warranty for around $1,100 extra.

Just using that as a middle of the road rate, deductible on your warranty or no?

Gotcha. No I have no deductible

My 09 is fine but $7,000 and no warranty, 2012 is the safer choice.

Thanks to all for your input. I won't be doing many mods so it appears as if the 2012 is going to win!! There is a lot said regarding peace of mind as the only owner and although the "upgrades" from 2009 to 2012 are not significant (accept maybe the oil cooler, which I will have to research a little more) they are nice to have...

DarkJak 04-23-2012 09:12 PM

I'd go for the 2012 too. Don't all the new ones come with the backup camera too? That could come in handy for tighter areas, since our rear visibility isn't good at all. Also, the factory oil cooler would probably be adequate for spirited everyday driving without having to worry about the oil temp gauge. I have a 2nd hand 09 with no issues, but the peace of mind from a new car is worth a lot.

There's nothing like the brand new smell knowing you're the very first driver
