looks awesome, scruffy! Great color. What was the actual paint color name/code?

twinturbonet 04-27-2012 04:20 PM

Pretty close to the color of the caliper. Looks good.

brucelidat 04-27-2012 04:21 PM

nice pics, too, now I can photoshop them onto my GM and see how they would look, haha

Hey Brucelidat, unfortunately there's no code for this as I asked the shop. It's a 3 stage paint job. They start of painting the wheel all black and then paint a coat Hyper Silver just like what the factory does with the Sports Rays. The only difference is that they only applied a mist of Hyper Silver, leaving it darker even compared to the 40th anniversary edition. Then after that, clear coat.

I asked for the code of the Hypersilver or black paint they use, they said they don't have a code for that - which I find B.S. Anyway, I guess i'll be going back to them to do it. For something like this they would have to match it anyways as it's really varies each time.

Thanks, I really like it alot because it has more shine to it than the 40th. Very much like the LFA wheels pic i posted earlier

Wow scruffy those look awesome! I love the fact you can see the metallic shining as the light hits it. It's perfect, not to black, not to grey, perfect balance. Do you happen to know what paint code they used on there? I would love to do my wheels exactly like yours.

ne! (nicely executed).

The rims LOOK SWEET & VERY CLEAN........ LOVE IT. Congrats on finally getting your ride back & enjoy the new look.

brucelidat 04-27-2012 04:44 PM

how long were you without a car for?

tjlazer 04-27-2012 04:56 PM

looks awesome. Should of put on some 20mm spacers on it when you had the wheels off

scruffydog 04-27-2012 04:59 PM

Thanks guys!

I dropped it off Monday afternoon and didn't get to pick it up till Thursday Afternoon. So 3 days total.

I still have to wait a couple of days before I can get the center caps back, they're saying mid next week since they're backed up. I'll try to post some pictures then.

I had them done at Wheel Techniques in case you're ever here in Nor Cal.

should i just with just the rears or all around 20mm? I track my car so what spacers do you recommend that will provide an advantage in performance?

brucelidat 04-27-2012 05:03 PM

I have 20mm all around. I did it more for aesthetics than performance, but it does give you a slightly wider stance. I'm not dropped, though.

I would do 20mm as you need this size at a min if you use bolt on types which are the easiest to install. (for the front wheels as they don't have the recess on them) 20mm is good, any more is overkill IMHO.

scruffydog 04-27-2012 05:56 PM

gotcha, thanks i defintely will do some research and put some on.
The shop's like, now I gotta paint the door handles and lug nuts.
My gf is like, your calipers need to be red now.

What should I do next? It seems that Mike the Powdercoater strongly advise to NOT powdercoat calipers b/c I track. Anyone had bad experience with tracking on powdercoated calipers?

The shop I powdercoated my wheels said they did both powdercoating and paint (not hi-temp) wheels over the last 22 years with no problem. That doesn't mean those guys track at all.

What about our OEM Akebono 40th Anniversary Calipers? Are they painted or powdercoated? If they're painted, I wonder if they're Hi-Temp Painted...I would like to have someone like Mike to replicate that for me. (Not neccessary the color but the same process) as we know that works okay.

kyz12 04-27-2012 09:27 PM

15mm front and 20mm rear. H&R Trak DRS wheel spacers.

Your wheels came out awesome!! From your earlier post i was expecting lighter but this is exactly what i am looking for! im going to bring your pics and post to talk to some powder coating places up in CT

Great job!!!!!

Thechidz 04-27-2012 09:31 PM

sorry for the late reply, I love the RE11s, esp for track. They're pretty expensive but worth it!

I run 285 in rear and 245 front.

nmjaxx9 11-11-2012 01:29 PM

sorry for the late reply. I had them powder coated at Wheel Techniques. I've had my Bike wheels done there before too. They're good. I'm sure there are better quality ones out there. They have great customer service. I love my wheels, they'll work with you!
