https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-z...519_163445.jpg Didn't realize it 'til we went back later for pics... it's a long way down. Make it through a couple trees and it's 80-100' down before you hit the water. Just got too much rotation on entry and had to do everything I could to prevent it from rotating too much. Hold a slide to scrub speed and then wait until I could get some grip to drive out of it. If we swapped ends we were done for. Scary stuff. Big lesson learned... a mistake at 10/10ths on the road doesn't afford you much room to recover! I feel bad for putting my friend in a position to get hurt. I am very thankful that through a combination of luck and skill we made it through without injury or damage. Next year I'm just not going to drive that hard when I'm by myself to limit the chances of making another mistake. I'll drive hard behind another car because I know I'm within my limits. I will also probably return with stickier and wider tires all around. |
I think gopro's should be a requirement. :stirthepot:

When they say use all the road they don't mean the green part. You did get very lucky there.
|
You could have very easily rotated into the trees and over.

Holy crap Steve...I heard the rumors, but the pictures and the drop off....
Glad it turned out ok.. If it was in the Mustang, you know how horses can be...They like to run wild... |
Learning the limits of the car is why I want to take my ZL1(if I get it) to the track and get professional instruction.

Yeah, this car rotates really easily which is good and bad. Good because it's fast as hell through a corner... bad because... well, it can be a bitch to drive at full tilt! I have a pretty aggressive suspension setup, too. I've got a good bit of rotation from the rear with the way I've got my watts link set up. Again, good and bad. Such a beast. |
You were trying to impress Dan, its ok Steve, we know;)

I take it that you where coming from the top of the pic right?

At least on track you're generally afforded sufficient runoff to attempt a save. Or just to spin off and maybe not hit anything if you're lucky. |

Yes the track is def. the place to learn the limits. Watkins Glen has alot of large runoff areas. I'm hoping that in the first class they keep you from using them and make you use just what track is provided. After that I want to learn to utilise the fullest extent of the track. |
Somewhat back on topic... we are taking the S2000 to a dealership tomorrow for ***** and giggles. If they offer me more than I paid for it, it's theirs. One step closer to sorting out the NISMO vs. TTS deal.
