How long did it take for you to get to 1200 miles?

Just like the title states, I'm curious how long it took for you all to reach the 1200 'proper break in' miles. I'm more interested in those that actually followed the Owner's Manual, not so much those that 'drove it like they stole it' because if you did, it would only take 1 day lol.

I've owned my Z for about 2 weeks now and I'm 'only' at 35 miles. At this rate, I'll probably hit 1200 miles next year if not later! :icon14:

TerribleONE 04-04-2012 10:12 AM

drive that baby at least till its broken in!! then you can let it be a garage queen.. I waited 500 miles, then drove her like shes mean to be driven but lets not turn this into a should you or should you not break in your motor thread!

kenchan 04-04-2012 10:12 AM

it took me about 1200miles..

:icon18: I know lol. But more curious in terms of how long it took for you to reach 1200 miles (time wise)

added poll options.

For me -- about 3 weeks.

nepali 04-04-2012 10:20 AM

Got the car on 2/20 and by 3/16, I was at 1310 miles. :) I am sitting at 1996 miles now. :D

speedfreek 04-04-2012 10:28 AM

Picked up on 2/26 and just turned 1200 miles yesterday.

370ZilverZ 04-04-2012 10:30 AM

3+ months and still not there yet. My mod days are slowing down now now so perhaps I can be optomistic and say within 6 months 1/4 mile at a time.

BigT 04-04-2012 10:30 AM

2 and a half months.

My first 3 month service is a week and i'm sitting on 1350 miles. I would have had less miles, but a family member had to borrow my beater for about 3 weeks.

:icon17: it took me a while cause i only drive my Z on sunny weekends. :D

im at 8400miles and bought mine new in Aug09. :p

SS66 04-04-2012 11:47 AM

My 2011 Z is hitting a April 1 year ownership anniversary. Odometer currently at 1056 miles. I just haven't driven the car hardly at all. I really like it but drive around in a DD most often. I don't know for sure but I might sell it in May. At this point who knows.

WOW...that's a pretty low usage there! :) None of my vehicles (past and current) have been that lucky. :D

Streetlife 04-04-2012 01:10 PM

2/25 was my purchase date 6.6 miles on her, i have 243 as of today. But she is my weekend toy, and i take her on a nice selected route. I'll get to 1200 when i get there, still enjoying her by following break in rules.:happydance:

UNKNOWN_370 04-04-2012 03:20 PM

I was trying to get break-in over with. You gotta get those first 5k miles on the car before long hibernations or modification. 5k parts are broken in well and lubrication has really melded to the engine well.

USMCASA 04-04-2012 04:03 PM

<1week are u surprised lol

theboydiddy 04-04-2012 06:49 PM

Wow. By reading this it really tells me to get another car and let that Z for the summer.
Purchased on 3-14-2012 and today (4-4-2012) I got 996 miles

nmjaxx9 04-04-2012 07:01 PM

the first 2,000 came under a 3 weeks I know that, its all part of buying something new you just want to use it a lot. :icon17:

iSteve370 04-04-2012 07:19 PM

Picked mine up new on 7/17/11 and have 13,6XX as of today.

Z_ealot 04-04-2012 08:11 PM

picked mine up new with only 5 miles on the clock, as of today sitting at 16,3XX. break in was done in less than 1 week, but thats only due to having to drive family members around for a wedding that was going on at the time that was about 70 miles from where i live, still stuck to break in procedure, but boy it's hard to resist driving my Z on the weekends. I have been taking it easy though the last few months so hopefully won't rack up to many more miles this year :)

hey man im at 16,200! and i agree on the weekend driving prolly where I put in the most miles other than commuting.

marks370z 04-05-2012 11:38 AM

A week and a half. Bought it on March 25th and I just hit 1204 miles.

osbornsm 04-05-2012 02:29 PM

<-- 2.5 minutes
I travel at the speed of light

Speed of light is 186,000 miles per second...with that, it should have taken you 0.006 second. 2.5 minutes is way too slow! :D

LakeShow 04-05-2012 03:28 PM

A couple weeks. It's supposed to be a gradual break in, not 2.5 mins.

nismochiq 04-05-2012 04:00 PM

hit 1200 a few days ago bought her 3/15. and you don't need to wait to put regular mods on, i.e. intake and exhaust. its just increasing the efficiency of the engine, and making it less restricted. no mod like that is going to ruin the engine.

theboydiddy 04-05-2012 04:53 PM

^^^ damn I bought my car one day before her. And as of today I'm on 1062 miles. She's right but I'll wait until 2K miles for me to add any mod to it

nismochiq 04-05-2012 06:45 PM

I had to drive up to base a few times and I drove her to Tampa. I wanted to break her in soon she is at 1600 right now

iSteve370 04-05-2012 06:48 PM

Damn, I'm noticing most people here don't use their Z as a daily driver.

theboydiddy 04-05-2012 07:00 PM

I do. But I don't want to really

iSteve370 04-05-2012 07:04 PM

I hate putting miles on mine but I love driving it so much. I couldn't imagine buying a second car and driving it when I know I have a Z at home.

i was thinking about that. if i get a hoopti to drive everyday, i wouldn't drive it, knowing that i have a brand new Z at home.

Bummer 04-05-2012 08:14 PM

Eleven days.

Didn't want to push it too hard.

nismochiq 04-06-2012 01:04 AM

I use mine as a DD. I don't want to sometimes, but I do. sometimes its a pain in the *** worrying about people touching my car. but then again I do live in daytona

Zoren 370 04-06-2012 01:27 AM

I had it in 3 and half weeks after that 4 weeks of garage queen, I'll be out of the country. I wanna RIIIIDDE my baby!!! Hey I got mine in Daytona Nissan.

psibrr 04-06-2012 09:36 PM

3 weeks.. 300 week 1 .. oil change 1, 600 week 2.. DD & weekend drives .. oil change 2 week 3 @ 1000 .. to full synth.

for DD's.. get packs of microfiber towels, and quick detail solution.. do a wipe down of front, mirrors, fenders etc., get any bug n sap n stuff off asap.
I'll do wipe at night and review in morning.. white flecks of limestone will glue down if not taken out fast.

dusters good pre-ride home, get dust and pollen etc. off. get small detail sprayer and keep in car with towel.. test it won't leak. autogeek.net has lots of stuff for all this.. oh yeah, plant sprayer with distilled water will blow off mineralizing spotting post wash, or morning rain or lawn sprinkle.

worth it to get polish glaze and seal then wax it.. wax wheels too, easy to wipe, but need to mark towels so don't mix for wheel, paint, vinyl, glass etc.

stay 6-8 car lengths back in traffic, pass only if no one there, no more lane changing as gets too close to those spinning wheels shooting out grit and stones.. especially on hi-way construction miles. don't park under trees, sap and pine cone damage not worth shade.

Good rules to live by. Nice to have a fellow member from Autogeek like myself on here.

rich conover 04-08-2012 08:38 AM

This coming Thursday will be 4-weeks and will hit 1200 by that time. I am going to enjoy driving this car. My last sports car was an 06 C6 vette that I had for over 4-years and sold with ~ 10K miles. I regret not having driven it more and won't make that mistake with the Z.

Augustus 04-09-2012 08:42 AM

Hell, I put 1,100 miles on my Z this weekend, road trip to see the in-laws for Easter. ;)

Now I have a lot of bugs to remove. :(

Coon-azz 04-09-2012 12:56 PM

This is my DD. I commutte about 120 miles per day, so I hit 1200 in about the 2nd week or so. A car is the worse investment you will make unless you're buying something in the six figures area and collect. Drive the darn thing.
