I will never have a front license plate on Vanity. As a matter of fact, when i took delivery of her i had to bring her back for the PDI and to have mods installed, i made sure i took the front plate bracket out of the hatch area before i started detailing her. Plus, the dealership i ordered my 370Z through never installs the front license plate on Z's unless instructed to do so, which i'm told never happens.:driving:

Texas Police Officer: Sir/Ma'am do you know why I pulled you over?

370Z Driver: No officer, why?

Texas Police Officer: You don't have a front license plate on your vehicle.

370Z Driver: Interesting, that's not against the law currently. Is there anything else you believe I'm in violation of?

Texas Police Officer: No, but I'm going to have to ask you for your license and registration.

370Z Driver: I'm sorry officer but if I'm not in violation of any state or local statutes, and you have no probable cause, I don't have to show you anything. I'll be on my way now. Have a nice day, sir.

Same thing goes for searching the inside of your car, no probable cause, say no! Believe it or not police officers are allowed to lie to get their way. This has been proven many times over from people who know the law more than the officers recording them on video. The funniest ones are lawyers in a protest, they damn near get away with anything!

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!

Authority on Texas law, are you?

The current situation is that it is a violation to not display a front plate. The problem is there are no prescribed penalties for the offense.

Police officers enforce the laws, the court system decides what penalty is appropriate based on the law drafted by the Legislature.

Bottomline - you can decide to not run a front plate and ultimately, you probably won't be fined for it. That still doesn't save you from the time and inconvenience dealing with it.

As I told several people this weekend, I'm not interested in being a test case. I bought a tow hook bracket from gominigo. I'll remove the plate for meets (sometimes), but still run the risk of getting a ticket. If I get nailed, I'll deal with it.

That's exactly why I got the 'tow hook mount'.. put it on while driving, and take it off at meets. Doesn't stop the cops from pulling you over and writing a ticket, which then you would have to go to court to get dismissed. I sure dont want that inconvenience. And I would just love to see someone tell a DPS officer "I don't have to show you anything. I'll be on my way now."

Ya.. You try that and let us know how that works for you.. lol

I've only been ticketed once in Illinois for not having a front plate, it was 75 dollar fine in a public parking garage in Chicago. And yes here the traffic enforcement cops can go into parking garages and ticket people. To me its part of the price to pay for having that look.

This pretty much sums it up.

Don't give cops any reason to pull you over and you should be alright.

I dislike mounting front plates on all of my cars as a personal preference. Once I got a ticket for no front plate while my car was parked on the street in front of my house. It was a $10 fix-it ticket and the plate was off once I cleared it. It was strange, someone in my neighborhood must've ratted me out. Then my housemate moved out and I took over the garage and I haven't had a problem since.

I live in Cali, no front plate here, didn't have one on my RX-8 when I lived in Connecticut either. Surprisingly enough, the dealer took it upon themselves to NOT drill into my front bumper, they said they will let me decide if I want to risk it. Couldn't thank them enough! What a way to ruin the front of a car... I've never had any issues with police, even when receiving speeding tickets.

It all depends on the officer and how much of a hard on they have.... I've done some of the stupidest sh*t in front of a cop been pulled over, driving my CA registered car with a NY license after I got out of the navy and about 6 months outside there transition grace period. Was given a hard time for everything this is in my A4 and the officer had to leave as his pen was about to touch the ticket paper. Did I deserve a ticket yeah I did, and got let off with a stern warning.

I also have had officers stare at my front bumper like there is something crazy with it for ten minutes then come back and ask where my plate was, I just tell them not on the car. Then when I went to get it signed off the officer in the station cracked jokes on the guy that wrote me up...on of them was to the effect of he would write his own mom up for this...

So it is all hit or miss, none of my cars since I've been in CA have had a front plate.

He also told me that it's on my record that I've been given a warning for no front plate, can they actually do that or is he just BS'ing me? Regardless, I'll just pay the fine if I ever get ticketed for it. My car looks natural without it and I refuse to ruin my car.

I got pulled over on the way to schools for no front plate by
Un marked charger!
He wrote me a ticket and told me , that he will write me
An another ticket, if he sees me again
Driving with out my front plate!
I had to paid $124. + $65 for stillen F. Mount.
A month later, I saw him waiting for someone At the same
Spot. :( it could have been $200 ticket if I did t have my front
Plate on for second time. :((

^^ Did you get points for not having front plate too?

Alchemy 11-08-2012 01:53 PM

I refuse to mount my front plate. Got my Z in the begining of 09. Been pulled over a few times and simply told the officer I wont drill into my bumper. They respect the car and let me go everytime!! I got a ticket for it once but it was cause the cop caught me speeding. Gave me the license plate ticket instead.

DR_ 11-08-2012 01:56 PM

Doubtfull as it is not a moving violation.

Its a no point ticket for sure.

Z370Z011 11-08-2012 02:04 PM

Well, idk if its been mentioned. But you should look into a show n' go license plate mod. There one in the DIY section. If you get pulled over you can just press the button and say "wha!? Are you blind! Go check again!" Lol

worst... advice... ever...

sure u go ahead and tell a cop that "u had no reason to pull me over, and im not showing you anything". they can tell u anything. suspicious bahavior, suspicious vehicle (for having no front plate), or just because they can. then u will go from a probable warning, to having about 5 tickets coming your way for being a bag of douche, one of which will be failing to identify yourself properly to an officer.

i got pulled for it once. told him that it was already ordered and coming in next week. got off with a warning
