Can we all please start hammering Nissan so they put a damn recall out on these?

Kinda hoping to have a recall before mine goes ;) Warranty ends in... 2 days

I would be nice if a member has a fail part and shift it around to fellow members to put it in their car, and then let the dealer fix it under warranty before their warranty expired.

these things have serial numbers...

Or... you can say yours was acting up and you just happened to get it working again but don't want to risk it happening out of warranty.

And then show the dealer all the issues other members were having

True, but can they punch in the serial # and your car would show up? I doubt that.

If you can't reproduced, bringing it to the dealer will do nothing.

your VIN wouldn't show up at the dealer from your steering lock s/n but the manufacturer will not warrant the part if they get multiple claims of the same s/n...

which means you may not get your freebie replacement that you were entitled to.

Ahh good point, did not think of that.

that would have been nice thoough :iagree:

I worry a bit more now since my 2010 was manufactured in February, do I be proactive or just wait for it to happen at the worst possible time...or who knows, it never happens lol

So let's say I buy a new steering lock and keep it in the trunk with some tools, just for peace of mind in case I get stranded. And then say I get the steering lock fail on my original lock. So I swap it out for the new one, and then what? Can I drive to the dealer with the new lock installed and then present the failed lock to them and try to get it replaced under warranty? Or would I have to drive close to the dealer, get out, install the old faulty lock, and then hope I can get it working long enough to drive into the garage to show them? It seems like I would have to reproduce the problem and since it's intermittent, maybe the old lock will start working again when I show the dealer and then I'm back at square one? I'm confused about the best way to do this.

yeah, you know, I'm not far from this sentiment myself, and I've owned 5 Z's and 8 Nissans total. Nissan is not what it used to be IMO.

My 370 is paid for and running well so I am keeping it, but next time I plan a purchase it will not be with Nissan. At this point, I will never buy another car from them. Time will tell and things change, but that's where I am at right now, after 22 years of nothing but Nissans.

Just wanted to update everyone on this since you've all been so helpful. I emailed Nissan about this issue and they got back to me with a case number. They said that after I take the car to a dealership and they diagnose the problem that I need to call them and see what they're willing to do.

I had to go out of town on business the next day after the car wouldn't start so it's been sitting in my work lot ever since. I called the closest dealership today and explained the issue. They said that they've never heard of it happening with a 370 (great) and that I need to get it towed in and pay $100 for a diagnostic fee (double great) and then they'll let me know the issue and I can take it up with Nissan as far as who pays for the repair.

Any advice on how I should deal with both the dealer and Nissan to try and make sure they handle the cost of the repair? Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. I really appreciate it.

nissan should cover the $100 diagnostic fee and the tow the dealer charges. honestly, that dealer sounds like bs.

dealers and nissan corporate are two different entities. i suppose you can talk to nissan and ask for reimbursement once deemed a warranty issue.

This is the typical goodwill/ case process as I actually work for Chrysler doing goodwill. Just like Chrysler, Nissan is not going to admit it's a problem. Your case manager will most likely know it is. Same process we tell customers they are responsible for the diagnosis and then work with the dealer to get the diagnosis and it's a crap shoot from here. What should happen is that Nissan and the dealer agree to assist and will cover some of the cost and pass a co pay to you. This is typical at Chrysler, for issues that are well known as detective or problematic still are not covered 100% it is extremely important to keep reporting this issue to the NHTSA as last I checked less than 10 reports... Nissan isn't going to recall this on their own...just as Chrysler continues to let well known issues sit idle.

I did neglect to mention that this is typical for out of warranty concerns, under warranty you should be able to get the towing reimbursed as well as the diagnosis fee would be waved once it's determined it is a warrantable concern with no signs of abuse.

My lock mechanism failed under warranty. Nissan covered towing and a loaner car (for more than 2 weeks). My out-of-pocket cost was exactly zero.
