from what i have been reading on this forum this isn't funny anymore.....
nissan screwed the pooch on this one....... there should be a recall for all 09-10 models........ makes me glad i bought an extended warranty knowing it's not if but when i get stranded i'm covered..............

I'm well aware of the steering lock and some other hiccups... but it's not stopping me from getting the Z...unless people start/ continue to file complaints with the .National highway safety admin .. it won't...unfortunately most car companies choose to ignore known issues ...it's not just Nissan

still does not justify condemning the whole nissan brand, sure you are entitled to your opinion, but personally i've owned 2 altimas and now my Z and have never had a problem with any of them mechanically. little things here and there maybe that were solved by just keeping up on maintenance and one blown power window motor that was replaced no questions asked, but other than that every nissan i've had has been solid. sorry for your problems with your Z, but keep the brand hate to a minimum please.

P.S.

i along with everyone else on this forum acknowledge that the whole intelligent key debacle is a known problem that nissan should have definitely looked into a long time ago for sure :)

I've owned just about every brand of car at this point in my life. I've never had issues like I've had with this car. What's more troubling is that this is, by far, the most I've ever spent on a car and it's the one that has had the most issues, had the worst warranty, and the worst customer service at the dealership. I'm glad you've had great experiences with Nissan, but that hasn't been the case for me. And when you're spending this much money on something, it would be stupid to not learn from your experiences.

If I somehow end up having to spend $1000 or more on this repair just a few months after my warranty expired, and (again) with just 13,000 miles on the car, I'm done with Nissan.

fair enough and again i'm sorry to hear about you having so many problems with your Z and hopefully it gets resolved quickly, i wish you only the best of luck in getting this whole mess sorted out and hopefully your next vehicle after the Z will treat you better :)

Is it even worth going through the hassle of replacing the batteries in my fobs or trying to jump start it? Or should I just get it towed to the dealership? If I have to pay for it out of pocket, I might as well take it to my local import guy and get it done for half the labor cost.

Yep, warranty expired last September. I will never buy another Nissan.

If you bought the car in September of 09, I think you still have until September of 2012 before the warranty expired. That will be 3 years. Unless you purchased in September of 08, then never mind.

Just what I was thinking, especially since OP joined the forum September of '09!

Jeez, another one. I'm seriously thinking about just buying the part for peace of mind, even though I'm under warranty. Has anyone else done that? I'm seriously afraid to drive my 09 more than 30 miles away from home because of this.

kenchan 03-28-2012 11:37 AM

yes, check DIY. i already swapped mine out and have the working original in my trunk with my mini ratchet so that i can replace in the field within 3min. :p

azn370z 03-28-2012 12:54 PM

I just replaced mine last night. But I plan to buy another lock in a year. It's not just peace of mind but a hassle getting it on a tow truck, dealer spending weeks figuring out what's wrong then charging $1k for a 5 minute job.

try opening the seized one and see if you can free it. there was a member that actually fixed his RevB. then keep it in your trunk.
i hear this thing is pretty premative...

GaleForce 03-28-2012 01:17 PM

:iagree: that's what I'd be doing.
