How much do you warm up your Z?

How much before pushing it? How low do you keep the revs?

kenchan 03-23-2012 02:06 PM

i wait until 180F oil. revs are kept normal under 4K

TerribleONE 03-23-2012 02:23 PM

I will wait till about 160F until I get on it at all. 180 to go above 6k

Davey 03-23-2012 02:25 PM

I usually just bounce it off the rev limiter and dump the clutch in reverse to back out of the garage.

Pelican170 03-23-2012 02:25 PM

Normally i do about 140, so thats my vote but there are times ill give it to when it starts to move...

hahah thats one way to warm it up quick! lol

I wait until 160 degree, which is where most oils start to enter their optimal operating temps. If I'm pushing the car very hard, I prefer to be at 180 or above, which is normally 210 degrees max thanks to my oil cooler.

mine sits in a heated garage, and then my whole town is only 40kms/hr, so by the time i'm out of town it's good to go.

you only look at water temp?

I used to just wait until the needle started to move, but then I installed my oil pressure gauge. The oil pressures don't start to drop to the lower operating pressures until 180+. Cooler than that, the pressures are in the 100-105 PSI range when you're around 2-3k RPM. That was enough to make me warm her up to 180F before getting sporty with my driving.

theDreamer 03-23-2012 03:16 PM

Mine is usually a 5-8 minute warm up, which usually the oil temp gauge is just about to start to move. By the time I am out of my neighborhood it is around 160.
Honestly, you really do not need to wait very long, a good 60 second warm up is all you really need just do not go bouncing it off the rev limiter and you are fine.

mantella87 03-23-2012 03:20 PM

180, I stay below 3k until then.

yep I think of this when I first start driving it. I think it was your thread :tiphat: that pointed out how high the oil pressure gets when you push past 2k rpm and temps are <180.

How accurate is the gauge anyways? For example the other day at lunch i went to the local grocery store. It is about 2 miles down the road. By the time i got there, the needle just started to move. Parked, came out 10 mins later and the gauge was then up to 140 or 160.... it jumped a lot while parked which makes me think its slow to move in general...

Car sitting can actually warm the car up, it is just sitting static with all the heat staying around it.
Same thing happens when you drive for awhile and you get to 200 degrees and park for a bit and come out and the temp is 220+.
