Same thing happens when you drive for awhile and you get to 200 degrees and park for a bit and come out and the temp is 220+.

Gotcha, makes sense I guess...

Also if you have an oil cooler the gauge is off a little

On another note, i dont think staying under 2k at first is really necessary or the like. For example in BMW's, they have the lights around the RPM's that warn you where to keep your RPM's while the car warms up. The lowest on them starts at like 5000 rpm's, meaning you can rev it to that limit until it warms up quicker...

The thing is though people were seeing oil pressure of >100 when going only to 3000 rpm.

I dont but im planning on getting one this year. Its been like 75 max outside and my car sits at 220 from normal driving...

Ok, well what is the pressure rating for our car? Is there somewhere that says it should be within x and x limits? Being curious...

Yep, after my camp 2 installed and seeing the pressure so high I always keep my revs down until the oil warms up. Not a huge deal for most people honestly, the only times I could see it being a problem is on extremely cold days and the car takes a long time to warm up.

This engine oil temp is what you want to see COMING OUT from the motor. In the case of the 370z and any add-on oil cooler, you are actually getting a false reading. Since the factory temp gauge reads engine oil as it exits the Oil Filter, you are actually reading the oil temp coming directly from the oil cooler. The flow pattern for engine oil on a 370z is as follows:

Pick Up Tube --> Oil Pump --> Oil Filter IN --> Oil Filter Out --> Oil Cooler --> Engine Block (Temp and Pressure gauges are located in this galley)

The temp you are reading is actually what is going back INTO the engine (which is perfect). By the time it cycles thru the engine, you can expect to see engine temps in 200 degree range.

As for the thermostatic sandwich plate, it will bypass roughly 80% of the oil back into the engine when too cold. It will still flow ~ 20% thru the oil cooler (preventing air pockets from forming).

To get a TRUE Oil Temp reading, you would need to install an inline oil temp gauge coming out from the Thermostatic Sandwich plate before the oil cooler.

asa rule of thumb, keep it under 100

No, but the oil temp is up enough to hit the hwy by the time i get to a hwy. other then that i don't drive hard near town anyway.

Doesnt that contradict itself?

I think what it is saying is if you want oil temps of 200, you would want that kind of temp reading on oil coming out of the engine (meaning oil in the engine is at 200). The 370z oil temps are read before going in the engine though. So if the guage shows 180 degrees, then real oil temps are probably 200

EDIT for those new to the discussion this applies to those with an oil cooler only.

haha lovely, so since I dont have a cooler, my temps are actually higher than whats being read... oh boy lol

I hope I am understanding this correctly...

They shouldn't be. Your set up doesn't allow the oil to cool off enough between when it exits the engine block and comes back in

5-10mins idle then go. Until 180, pedestrian speeds.
