Trade the 370Z for a 04 Viper SRT10?

Feeling a little anxious. I have a 2010 370z that I bought brand new and theres a 04 SRT 10 Viper that I am thinking about trading in for. Good move or bad move? When I race, I drag race. Best 1/4 time in the Z was a 13.8. What would you do if you had a choice, 370 or Viper?

BigT 03-09-2012 06:03 PM

Sorry dude, but Viper all the way. Pending that it is in good shape.

TerribleONE 03-09-2012 06:08 PM

What condition and how many miles? I'd probably have to take the viper too or boost the Z!

joestew1985 03-09-2012 06:14 PM

Great condition 37k miles

shadoquad 03-09-2012 06:16 PM

I love vipers.

It's not going to be as daily-driver livable as the Z. It lacks some nice features such as traction control, and the interior is spartan. But as a track toy, it's going to probably be much more fun. You only live once!

joestew1985 03-09-2012 06:18 PM

Just tough because the Z is the newest model Z out right now and the 2013 Viper is coming out. You know what I mean?

Totally. :werd:

Cyberium 03-09-2012 06:26 PM

Viper was always a dream car for me when I was little. Didn't dawn on me that I could of bought an older one for the price of the Z lol...

Get the Viper!

joestew1985 03-09-2012 06:36 PM

damn, thought the 370z forum would be pro 370s lol...not one co-sign yet

Skorch 03-09-2012 06:48 PM

If you can afford the gas and insurance - get the Viper. My Z is my daily driver, and gas alone would make the Viper impractical for me. I'm actually regretting getting my 4.08 gears for that reason already.

brucelidat 03-09-2012 06:50 PM

Well, the Viper is in a different class, performance-wise and most members here are moreenthusiast than fanboy so...

KillerBee370 03-09-2012 06:54 PM

Viper = cool! :tup:
04 = :icon08: hmmmm...

Nikkolai 03-09-2012 06:56 PM

You answered your own question by saying you are a drag racer; which the 370Z was never really meant for.

brucelidat 03-09-2012 06:57 PM

I would definitely do some research into maintenance and mechanical issues the car might have down the line since it's already an 8 year old car. Also, if this is your only car, someone mentioned driveability as a DD if you nee dot drive a lot. Other than that, for drag racing which you say you do, it's a no contest. Is it a fairly even swap or are you paying anything?

brucelidat 03-09-2012 06:59 PM

Yeah, Z is def not a drag car unless you boos tit maybe. Either way, it wasn't designed or intended to be a drag car so that won't be its strength.

TheGreatOne 03-09-2012 07:01 PM

Interesting trade option

Any pics of this viper?

joestew1985 03-09-2012 07:08 PM

Not a daily driver, had my Z for since Feb 2010 and just hit 13k miles. Weekend car in mind.

brucelidat 03-09-2012 07:12 PM

Well, if it's not the DD, won't become a money pit, and is better for your interests than the Z, go for it. And post pics when you do.

Cyberium 03-09-2012 07:17 PM

Yeah, what is the cost of repairs / maintenance on that beast?

Looks great!!! Interior :barf: I would keep in mind that you'll be getting a car almost a decade old for the price of a 2010 Z. That viper does look very clean.

Jamaica 03-09-2012 07:20 PM

This will be an interesting trade. Vipers are nothing but power.

joestew1985 03-09-2012 07:21 PM

I talked to a few guys on the viper forums. For the most part maintenance cost is not that expensive at all. They did mention that aftermarket parts are extremely expensive due to a small market of buyers. Oddly enough, I called my insurance company to get a quote on that VIN. The Viper is $60 cheaper a month than what I pay currently on the 370z.

WHAT!? :rofl2:

joestew1985 03-09-2012 07:23 PM

yup, surprising but very true.

Cyberium 03-09-2012 07:24 PM

Viper's always had the WORST interior of any high end sports cars...

joestew1985 03-09-2012 07:26 PM

I definitely agree, and they dont have traction control. For some reason all the negative things about the Viper make it more attractive to me. I guess I like the rawness of the V10. Its definitely not for beginners.

Cyberium 03-09-2012 07:29 PM

Yeah, be careful. I remember watching some car show when some old guy brought his new Viper to get worked on and had some dvd players or some crap installed and then when he left, he went to show off and peel out and ended up spinning out and in a ditch. Totally ruined the car lol

Powerful car set on killing you for sure - would definitely go through driving school if I had a car that powerful. My brother-in-law almost wiped out in his new Z06 trying to showoff in NOLA. He did an S figure before regaining control - he dropped his SC plans for the car after that incident :icon18:

TheGreatOne 03-09-2012 07:31 PM

Looks really good, since sits a weekend car for you, I am leaning towards the Viper with a change of wheels :) lol It looks extremely clean.

If you actually would drive more during the week I'd say stick with the Z

It's funny how everyone talks about the "rawness" of the Viper, but when I rented one a few years ago in Vegas, I wasn't impressed at all. My 1994 Pontiac Folmula "felt" faster. To me, the Viper was almost too smooth and quiet. That's not to say that I don't want one, it just wasn't what I expected. I know that it can cruise at 120 all day long (as long as you are near a gas station). I know that there is a "wow factor" that you can't get from almost any other vehicle (unless you want to spend > $100K).

Good luck with your decision.

Investr 03-09-2012 07:54 PM

I love my 370 Roadster, BUT the Viper is another league. VIPER!

MJB 03-09-2012 07:59 PM

I'm not really a fan of the Gen III vipers (convertible only)... Love the 96-02 GTS and the 06-10 Coupes. BUT.... a Viper is a Viper any way you put it, so I would say lose the Z and go V-10!

icormba 03-09-2012 08:19 PM

pretty much what MJB said! I love the GTS.

... but as long as it has this:

I don't think you can go wrong

p.s. I'm not talking about the K&N sticker ;)

sonic370 03-09-2012 08:57 PM

all the post make a ton of sense but there's no way to compare the two...
you can get 2 loaded 370's for the price of a viper... of course i'm talking new...

the viper is a totally untamed beast i'm not putting them down but imho there
only good for the track. as a dd a dump truck would be better....

but on a strip or track first class

$150 hour for labor, front end collision starts at $15k and goes up from there. Vipers are expensive toys.

3zworld 03-09-2012 11:18 PM

Wow...nice viper...how much with Z trade ?

get the viper... NOW. its a freaking viper for crying out loud. if each of you doesn't turn into a 10 year old when thinking of that car, then get your pulse checked

/thread...

mantella87 03-09-2012 11:34 PM

Do it. You've had the Z and enjoyed it.
