Looks really good, since sits a weekend car for you, I am leaning towards the Viper with a change of wheels :) lol It looks extremely clean.

If you actually would drive more during the week I'd say stick with the Z

He did an S figure before regaining control - he dropped his SC plans for the car after that incident :icon18:

It's funny how everyone talks about the "rawness" of the Viper, but when I rented one a few years ago in Vegas, I wasn't impressed at all. My 1994 Pontiac Folmula "felt" faster. To me, the Viper was almost too smooth and quiet. That's not to say that I don't want one, it just wasn't what I expected. I know that it can cruise at 120 all day long (as long as you are near a gas station). I know that there is a "wow factor" that you can't get from almost any other vehicle (unless you want to spend > $100K).

Good luck with your decision.

I love my 370 Roadster, BUT the Viper is another league. VIPER!

I'm not really a fan of the Gen III vipers (convertible only)... Love the 96-02 GTS and the 06-10 Coupes. BUT.... a Viper is a Viper any way you put it, so I would say lose the Z and go V-10!

icormba 03-09-2012 08:19 PM

pretty much what MJB said! I love the GTS.

... but as long as it has this:

I don't think you can go wrong

p.s. I'm not talking about the K&N sticker ;)

sonic370 03-09-2012 08:57 PM

all the post make a ton of sense but there's no way to compare the two...
you can get 2 loaded 370's for the price of a viper... of course i'm talking new...

the viper is a totally untamed beast i'm not putting them down but imho there
only good for the track. as a dd a dump truck would be better....

but on a strip or track first class

Yeah, what is the cost of repairs / maintenance on that beast?

$150 hour for labor, front end collision starts at $15k and goes up from there. Vipers are expensive toys.

get the viper... NOW. its a freaking viper for crying out loud. if each of you doesn't turn into a 10 year old when thinking of that car, then get your pulse checked

/thread...

mantella87 03-09-2012 11:34 PM

Do it. You've had the Z and enjoyed it.

ImportConvert 03-09-2012 11:46 PM

Sample the viper, but keep in mind that its truly a toy. Expensive at that.

I talked to a few guys on the viper forums. For the most part maintenance cost is not that expensive at all. They did mention that aftermarket parts are extremely expensive due to a small market of buyers. Oddly enough, I called my insurance company to get a quote on that VIN. The Viper is $60 cheaper a month than what I pay currently on the 370z.

Wow? How much do you pay a month on the Z??

I'd get the Viper btw. Weekend car  After you get it you can show me at the next cars n coffee :D

Go with a Viper, if you are going to get a viper (which i think you should) get the Gen 3 or Gen 4 engine.

As for the maintenance costs. On my SRT-10 Ram, it cost $150 for a oil change and $120 for spark plug change (thats just parts since i do my own work) Thats the only price quotes i can give you since those 2 things are pretty much the only thing that is the same on the car. If you talk to tony at JTSVP he can hook you up with parts if/when you get a Viper.

Have you sat in it? How tall are you? I'm 6'1" and can't find a good seating position in them. I'm either looking over top of the windshield (convertibles) or hunched over to look through the windshield, for that reason it would be a big no for me.

The interior is very low end, bad fit and finish, but if you're not worried about that, and if you want something that looks cool and goes like stink, I say go for it!

That is on the Gen 1 & 2 Vipers because of the "clam shell" type hood. Just the hood alone for those models is around 15k.
