Otherwise, the base Corvette is a downgrade from the 370Z, even worse when you consider value for money.

I didn't know that. I will have to read into this more. I love my Z, thinking about trading my daily driver for vette. I have 2011 Accord Coupe EX-L.

Corvette's insurance is cheaper than the Z duh. Look at how many people are crashing their cars left and right. On the Corvette forum, you only read about them dying from old age (I am not joking either)

thats what I was going to write. When I went from my C6 to the Z, insurance went up about $60 per month, and I'm an old fart with a clean record.

C5Z is a better car than the C6. Unless its more about looks and less about performance. It's not a huge difference but the C5Z has a more sporty feel to it, and all around better car outside of the looks and interior.

The C5Z doesn't have the 370z's looks and interior either but outside of that it beats the Z in everything else. I picked up an '03 w/ 65k miles which I now traded in for a GTO (Terrible deal which I regret). I'm biased but I am not a big fan of the base model C6's. Seem very cheap inside and not very sporty. The Z feels a lot more nimble, sporty, good interior, great looks. I'd take the 370Z over the C6 but a C5Z over the 370Z.

I am really not joking. Every now and then you get a post about someone passing away due to old age. The demographics on the Corvette guys are much older.

-My 370Z is $50/mo cheaper than my Z06 to insure. (26/m/single)
-They both handled very well, but with a different feel.
-The Z06 was obviously way faster.
-The 370Z feels like it has the interior of a $40K car. The Z06, a $15K car (not exaggerating).
-They both get identical mileage in my experience.
-The Z06 sounds SO MUCH better than the 370Z when the exhaust opens up.
-The transmissions are both a bit unrefined, toss-up here.
-Steering in the corvette feels more "connected" and "safer" at high speeds, but both cars feel stable well into tripple digits. The Corvette steering is a pain in parkinglots but is very nice at speed, the 370Z is the opposite.
-The corvette has a bit more body flex
-The corvette has much better visibility
-The 370Z is a Nissan, and people associate it as such. Corvette is almost considered its own brand by many lay people. They say "Corvette for a Nissan?" when I tell them I traded. Then I remind them...Chevy/Nissan...same deal.
-The ZR1 feels like a Base model except rides smoother and has more performance. Quality, interior, etc. are all the same.
-The 3LZ package is lipstick on a pig beyond the telescoping steering column. Leather glued to things doesn't make it somehow "upscale".
-370Z has more "roll" than a Z06, it feels similar to a base C6, except the C6 is more composed over bumps. The 370Z is very "bouncy" and has a lot of rebound over rolling dips at speed.

Besides the interior I don't think you would regret it. Go for it.

I will go for a test drive at the dealership near my house.

Whats your ultimate goal? Tooling around town or hitting the track?

I dont know how people in here seem to think the Z will out-handle a properly equipped C6, at all...

With the way some people write it, the Z is a little gocart and the 'vette comes with a set of oars and a captains hat.

Sorry, kiddies - a used Corvette Z51 package is the best bang-for-buck car out there right now, really. That said, I doubt the one he was looking at has the Z51 package so I wouldn't even think of getting it, but thats besides the point - a Z51 (or Grand Sport) will push some 370Z shit in, barring some significant power upgrades to catch up...

The corvette is very nimble, but tight corners are not its forte. It takes a lot more work than the 370Z, but yes, it WILL out-perform it comparing car to car. Comparing the human element, it will take much more skill to manipulate the Z06.

If all you care about is speed and tracking a car, get a C5 Z06 and some race rubber and call it a day. It will be cheaper (brakes, tires) than the C6, and won't break the bank to buy, either.

You want a C6 Z06? Well...think about the tires, lol. $2K a set.

SLAM DUNKED by the Convert. sways will tighten up the Z and give it a tighter feel. Lowering the Z's center of gravity will give it a slightly better high speed feel.
The corvette comes out the lot slammed and there is no production car under 80k as tight as the vette. Just no body roll from the factory. The vette is a great weekend car. That interior is Sh1tbox pathetic.
