Hi all,

I have a question about the Z. Are the 370Z a fully Japanese car? I mean all parts like the design, engineer, built, developed. Are all the process done by the Japanese?

Thanks.

Nope, Mr.kenchan, I have to disagree with you on this one.

The Steering Lock is designed AND built in Japan for the first one/sample, then they brought that sample to China and ask them duplicate and manufacture.

Yes.

There may be some tests (DOT approval, crash tests, etc.) done in the states, but it's a Japanese designed and assembled vehicle.

It is very difficult to say all parts are built in Japan, right??

Hi all,

I believe that all the engineering, the car building and developing process are all built fully in Japan and developed by the Japanese. The only thing I doubt on is the exterior design. I have researched the Nissan official and found the product design division is Mr. Kazuki Yamazaki. Color design division is Ms. Mika Mizutani, and the interaction design division is Yusuke Tsuji. But then I found out that the designer is Mr. Randy. I also researched more that the Product Chief Designer is Mr. George Yanaka. Also, in one of the interview, it is said that Mr. Yanaka is the one who is responsible for the exterior design. So I want to make sure that in the design division, who is actually responsible for the production exterior design?

I would assume he means the research, design, development and final assembly of all parts. Could a bulb or fuse or plastic headlight housing piece come from somewhere else? Sure. But it's not as if GM builds the shocks for the car and the motor came from Ford

Some exotics, for example, source motors from elsewhere (e.g., last gen Lotus Elise had a Toyota/Yamaha motor).

Although apparently Valvoline makes the OEM gear oil

That's what my window sticker says on the origin disclosure portion. I think that is federally mandated and should be accurate under penalty of some sort.

Where are you going with this? for satisfaction? or research?

I know it's build in Tochigi Japan. It was designed by Randy Rodriguez in California. Then that design sketch was taken to Japan and there the design was finalized (Randy received a copy of the final design and was asked what he thought of it. He obviously gave it a ).

Car is built 100% in Japan. If you add options like illuminated kickplates or splash guards or other small options, they are sometimes installed at the port/local dealer etc. These cars are fully built and shipped to us. NO parts are built or modified or installed in United states. Just like the GTR

Regardless of their television, the Japanese have an absurdly respectable work ethic. I am not so egocentric regarding America that I am not proud of the above facts.

I think some components is not designed by NISSAN. Remember the problematic gas pedal of those Toyota, I believe they just bought the component from MAGNA.

Probably similar with some of the components in NISSAN too.

US is very restricted on this, Canada is a bit easy on this one.
