First real day driving the Z and i get pulled over!

Was waiting till after i had the clear bra installed on the z to really start to put some miles on the car. We have a highway here just recently built (364) pretty smooth and not to much traffic on a saturday. Not even on the highway for 5 minutes and there was a local cop standing outside is car holding the radar gun and he nailed me. Pulled me over, i couldn't roll down my window because it was just tinted yesterday so it's not starting out well. He said i was doing "76 in a 60" which was probably lucky he got me when he did, man that things gets up there before you know it. So after 10 minutes sitting there with my door open he comes back and says, which do you prefer, a speeding ticket or a seat belt ticket, i was wearing my belt by the way. I took option b the $10.00 ticket, man what a cool cop. I was thinking to my self, damn 1st car and 1st speeding ticket in a long time, knock on wood

My brother is a St Louis cop, I wonder if he nailed you? Next time I talk to him I'll ask. BTW I have one of these babies, worth every penny!

^ escort saved my *** from a motorcycle cop the first month I had it. Paid for itself real quick. I have the new one, but it doesn't update like it's supposed to. I've been going back and forth with them about it.

theDreamer 05-30-2009 10:17 PM

I went with a V1, but either way it will help, I have definitely picked up a few and was given plenty of lead time to return to proper driving. This car will definitely move you faster than you think you are.

I've only updated mine once and it worked fine. Glad I had a rechargeable air pump to plug it into though.

I know the V1 is supposedly the ish, but I absolutely LOVE the lockout of false alerts due to the GPS. That and there are more and more speed and red light cameras out there and this baby tells you all!

frost 05-30-2009 10:24 PM

^ yeah, I don't want to get into a debate about it, but even though v1 always gets great reviews, escort generally beats it out in opinion polls.

frost 05-30-2009 10:24 PM

PS, I hate the escort got rid of the volume slider on the side. It's not as easy to turn it down/off with the quickness.

theDreamer 05-30-2009 10:28 PM

That was one thing I wish the V1 would upgrade to, with more red light cameras, speed vans, etc. on the roads I pick up no signal for them. Plus the lack of GPS to plug in false alarms is one turn off. Though my neighbor sold me on the V1 and I lucky have a great memory so I can usually pin point false alarms and mute the system on my own. Or just drive quicker past them so it stops beeping. ;)

My friend has an escort and loves it, and we have tested them in a rough manner and the V1 wins then the escort wins. In the end I feel just having one is better than nothing, just as long as you know how to read and understand how they report everything.

frost 05-30-2009 10:29 PM

I like that the v1 tells you where the cop is, but I wish it did like, a single screen instead of 4 separate arrows. It looks bulky.

+1, it reminds of 90's technology.

StLRedrider 05-30-2009 11:53 PM

It was in my backyard of Maryland Heights. He was a cool cop. I never tried to talk my way of the ticket or anything. He did ask me if i had any weapons in the car though. I told him only when i work.

AK370Z 05-31-2009 12:45 AM

He is really an awesome cop! Our cars are def eye catcher. So, you gotta drive carefully all the time. I use Passport Escort.

frost 05-31-2009 12:56 AM

^ good man :D

I'm still dumbfounded that a seatbelt ticker is on $10... I'm pretty sure thy are considerably more than that here in Texas.

200 in Texas, awhile ago they went on that whole "Click it or Ticket" campaign (may still be) which created an increase in the ticket price to help deter people from driving without a seat belt on.

Namir 05-31-2009 01:29 PM

He didn't radar you. He lasered you. (You said he was standing outside his car with a gun)

Radar is car mounted and fires in all directions, and the cruiser doesn't need to be stationary.
Laser is a hand held unit that must be aimed at oncoming cars from a stationary location.

It wouldn't matter if you had a radar detector, laser is instantaneous with little or no stray signaling.
ie. your radar detector would go off saying you got lasered... and then you get pulled over.

I recently took a 4kmile road trip with both a Passport 8500 and a V1 mounted side by side on the windshield.
I think the 8500 was under the back seat by day 2. It went off just as much as the V1... but with no indication of where the signal was coming from, it really didn't tell you much.

Arrows FTW.

PS. I think a brand new 370Z in "arrestmered" is just too tempting for cops to pass on. That's awesome that you got off with just a seat belt ticket and no points.

NeedforZ 05-31-2009 01:51 PM

Yeah I've been seeing this "Click it or Ticket" commercial everyday on tv.

this is a little bit of a side rant, but even though I always wear my seatbelt, I can't stand that the government forces people to wear them. Not including kids, if you're a grown *** adult and dont want to put it in, who the eff is the government to tell you to wear it?

$88.00 Calif.

StLRedrider 05-31-2009 02:38 PM

I was wearing my seatbelt when he had pulled over, never took the thing off the entire time. Maybe he felt obligated to write me up for something. Either way i'm not complaining one bit, i am going to check into the radar detector. I took a few shots of the ticket envelope, it has the breakdown of the fines. There back up on the first post.

CBRich 05-31-2009 03:31 PM

This thread makes me want to look further into the radar thing. I have zero experience with them being from Virginia so I have a lot to research.

So what's your job then? Are you a cop too?

StLRedrider 05-31-2009 05:16 PM

No i'm not, i have my conceal permit. I own lawncare/landscaping company and several of the investors i work with have some properties let's say are not in the best of area's. I usally carry all the time, it just so happens i wasn't at that time.
