HAha, I'll have to see how that goes over. "Babe part of my plan for buying my sports car I absolutly don't need involves you driving me half the year." HAHA. Better wait till it actually happens

If you can afford that, then store the Z through summer, terminate the insurance or take the minimum one. It could work out.

But if you can only have one car for now, as many of us here say, get a set of very good snow tires for Winter, you'll be fine. I used to drive the 350z the whole year around in Toronto, and sometimes we have one or two nasty snowstorms too.

Good to know man! I have a beautiful 2011 honda accord right now. I am trading her in for the Z, she is so practical but does not excite my primal sports car needs. Wish I could keep both but my wallet couldn't handle it right now

I think I probably will do that after I pay off the Z. (with my down payment i'll have her paid off in 18 months.) In the meantime I could jus tmake my girlfriend drive me around in her 03 honda civic when the roads get toooo bad :hello:

I missed the part "paid off in 18 months"

It seems you have a huge sum of money for down, why not use part of it to buy the Winter beater??

It might not affect the monthly that much.

I would do that only problem is I am an american citizen living and working in canada. The result is a credit nightmare. Long story short, I can't get any long term financing here in canada because of my lack of canadian credit. In the US I can't use a traditional auto loan since I will be driving the car here. That leaves me with an unsecured personal loan which we all know have #$$@ interest rates. So I could extend the term of that personal loan but i'd end up paying a ton of interest so I am just going to pay it down ASAP instead.

I see, how long are you staying in Canada/Edmonton? If for short term, then you might not need the beater.

Well my work permit is a 3 year work permit. My job has no expiration though. I really like the company i work for so I don't see myself going anywhere. The issue local dealerships are having with me is the three year work permit. In a year and a half i can apply for permanent residency which would remove that hurdle. I think when I get permanent residency I should have the Z paid off and then I can just finance something used with clearance/awd

Have you consider the leasing option?? Cos I found the buyback is not that expensive. It may be an option.

So I'm in the same boat as lots of others it seems. My first post here so please forgive me.

Currently I have a Ford Raptor I'm thinking about trading in. In the garage I have my old trusty Twin Turbo AWL/AWS Stealth.

I like HP, and I like cornering, but my days of 100+ MPH are pretty low. But I do like the 0-60 take offs. I also really like cornering.

Mustang GT 500 vs 370z Nismo

As some others have said the 370z is a bit more rare. These days you can't drive 2 miles without seeing a new body style Mustang. Which also has the question for me. Resale value down the road.... It would seem to me the 370z would hold value much better then the Mustang? I typically keep a car 1-2 years. and drive maybe 8-10k miles a year.

At this point I haven't driven either. I did just buy the GF a Maxima and we love it. It was really light years ahead of any car that ford had we tested. Camaro is out for me. Love the look, but just not interested. Challenger is nice, big *** muscle car... crappy cornering. Altho Lime green could be tempting.

Sorry if i got a bit off the original post. Not trying to hyjack the thread.

The 2011 Mustang GT actually has KBB's best resale value in the "High Performance Car" category.

But yeah, resale on the Z is not bad at all.

For a daily driver, only car, living in your area, the Z just isn't practical. Its gonna give you more of a headache than joy if it constantly snows up their. I don't think even a Mustang would be practical. Get something with AWD. The G37x Coupe, TT or 3 series perhaps. I can't think of other 2-door awd cars in this segment.

m4a1mustang 02-24-2012 08:32 AM

AWD isn't really necessary if you are willing to keep a set of snow tires for the winter. Both the Z and the Mustang do really well in snow with proper tires.

sceptre155 02-24-2012 08:37 AM

Thanks for the input. I should mention that I'll be picking up a beater to drive in the winter. Probably another 4x4 truck. I have heard good things about the new GT500. They are touting its the best Mustang ever built.

I don't know. Snow tires will get you home on a plowed road in a Z or stang, but AWD is godsend on un-plowed roads. I use to have a 2wd Jeep with snow tires and got stuck in 6" of snow in an unplowed parking lot. I'm just saying AWD and snow tires if you wish, would be far better. Since he has or will have a 4wd beater, it doesn't really matter now.
