Do People Judge You By Your Car's Appearance?

3 Attachment(s)
lol. i only ask cause this girl i work with said to me....i would see your car everyday in the lot and didnt know it was yours! she thought that is was a guy that would look like a punk would drive ie. hat front to back, with baggy pants! not a suit and tie!! lol.

my 2 cars.

SS66 02-07-2012 08:41 AM

1) She sounds immature in some way.
2) Your description of the youth aka: "punk", hat backwards baggy pants etc. makes you sound like an old fart.

And this is coming from a guy some kids might call an "Old dude."

BigT 02-07-2012 08:44 AM

I would say yes, but they shouldn't. The two owners of the company I work for drive Ford pickup trucks yet they are each worth over 100 million dollars. You wouldn't even know it if you saw them.

thats what she said to me...the hat and pants.

SS66 02-07-2012 08:56 AM

She is a young immature "Profiler" LOL

bigsix 02-07-2012 08:57 AM

Have there been 'Stigmas' attached to the 370z since it came out(that any of you have noticed)?

Of course people judge based upon appearance. This chick may not be right for you.

If any of us saw a 370 that looked like it had not been washed since it was purchased, covered in excrement, and dirt. What are the chances we would compliment the driver or car? Diminished certainly.

yaheard 02-07-2012 09:33 AM

Dont act like any of us wouldnt do the same exact thing if somebody drove by in an Integra or Civic with a loud muffler on it and wing.

Most would think: Ricer

It could be somebody that bought it used as is because that is all they can afford. Sterotypes and judging happens everyday and is part of our daily lives unfortunately. Its just what we seem to do.

TheGreatOne 02-07-2012 09:52 AM

Really? On a convertible sports car? I'm surprised a chick would think a punk drives it, its a classy car.

I know when I got mine just a lot of people were surprised it was mine and impressed at work (lot of people aren't driving anything special or have no car at all) People who know me knew it fit my personality and didn't expect anything less lol.

mantella87 02-07-2012 09:56 AM

Her cousin probably has a 350Z, next thing she will tell you is, "My cousin has the same car!"

In other words, she sounds like an idiot.

What people think of your car depends on their exposure to the automobile world, how impressionable they are regarding cars/material possessions, and money. Ages of both parties will have a strong influence as well. The average guy on the highway thinks you're wealthy if you drive a used BMW, even though a brand new Hydundai is more expensive. Most girls (and less masculine men) are hopeless since they have been wrongly conditioned to think that only high end luxury cars are worth any praise, and that Miatas are gay. The list goes on.

TreeSemdyZee 02-07-2012 10:46 AM

It's hard to answer that question without seeing pictures of the girl. :icon18:

Cmike2780 02-07-2012 10:56 AM

She probably thinks it's a 350z....in which case, the hat and baggy jeans stigma might be justified.

xiven 02-07-2012 11:01 AM

My car still hasn't gotten me any girls. Then again maybe it has. I give them a ride in it and then they leave. I guess it loses its appeal after awhile but maybe its just me.

ShockWave 02-07-2012 11:12 AM

cars don't get you girls!! Who YOU are gets you girls!!

A nice car will definitely help you land certain types of girls.

flashburn 02-07-2012 12:16 PM

Wait, it's a convertible and she didn't think a chick drove it? :wtf2:

I often wonder what people think when I get out of my car. Sometimes it looks like they're thinking, "What's that old, short, fat and bald guy driving that car for."
Then I think, "Ha. But I'm driving it and you're not."

yes, only airheads. :icon17:

Notsud 13 02-07-2012 02:35 PM

yes, but thats cause theyre dumb and ignorant.

im 25, fully sleeved with tats, and i have piercings all over my face. People think i sell drugs or have really rich parents. Both of these are far from the truth.

Are you sure she wasn't talking about a Mustang owner? :stirthepot: :bowrofl:

Apoc370z 02-07-2012 03:02 PM

I think its a good thing that cars dont get you girls, i have driven two girls home before... Both wearing skirts, both left a white-ish stain on my leather seats..

Wtf are girls using on their thighs these days?

memorylasts 02-07-2012 04:39 PM

At the chevron last night some kid that worked there goes around and cleans windows and checks for cracks... so I pull up and he says "sir, do you need your window cleaned?" I was like "no, and don't touch the car"...then he starts asking about it...and then mutters something about being a "drug dealer". I replied "oh really what brings you to that conclusion?"

He goes all nice cars like that are drug dealers cars....I'm like wtf?

I'm by no means a dealer, I'm a full time student everyone is going to judge what they can't have...

Huh... maybe with a 3 series bimmer, but the z?

370ZilverZ 02-07-2012 05:05 PM

Yes people judge you by what you drive. Everyone thought I was such a big shot when I drove my BMW M3. I hated it. Now I drive a 370Z around, I feel like the looks are more saying cool car and not rich stuck-up bast@rd. I'm just a retired Marine with VA benefits. Far from a rich anything.

I get this all the time. Even worse are the people who ask if I paid cash for it. I always say if I could have paid cash I'd be in a GT-R. It's a stupid mindset to think you can't work hard and or save for something. The only thing I'm slangin is this d1ck.

Face 02-07-2012 05:32 PM

I'm eager to see if I receive similar responses from people...

Last night leaving Safeway, a well-dressed (suit/tie) 70+ man walked in front of me as I was backing up, staring at the front end the whole time and then gave me a fairly enthusiastic thumbs up.

I wonder if it reminded him of a car he once loved.

There are a LOT of high end cars where I live, more Porsches and Aston Martins than you'd imagine. I've only seen a small handful of 370Zs rolling around. Literally, Ferraris are more popular. I think because the income level is so high, if they're in the market for a 2-seater, they're going all or nothing. *sigh* some day... or not.

birdmanx1 02-07-2012 05:41 PM

"Wow is that a Porsche? How much did you pay for it? What do you do for living? Must be nice to have money!" that's it for the most part!!!

anthonyy 02-07-2012 06:10 PM

yes, it's called stereotyping.

Everybody does it, even subconsciously, because everyone is an *******. Including myself.

BrianMSmith 02-07-2012 06:55 PM

who cares?
