yeah, engine sludge sucks big time........ ever saw the Castrol commercial with the oil falling on a person...... that's what you got :icon14:

Castrol seems pretty good, i never had a problem with it.

lol......reminds of what i did...... one day i decided that no more maintenance or repairs on my grand-am...it took like 25K km to turn regular Castrol oil into foam... :ugh2: then it went to the scarp yard.

Now for the bad news! That crap on your dip stick, is still in your engine . After you change your oil&filter, to a good synthetic. Drive a 1000, 2000 miles,"do not go the recommended 6000 or more miles"! At 1 or 2K, change your oil&filter again. You need to get the crap from the old oil, out of your engine.

Now, don't get me wrong. I sell Auto Parts for a living. Quaker State was bought by Pennzoil about 4 years ago. Our reps in Canada have told us that the product in the bottle is exactly the same. In fact, they were bought by Shell Lubricants about 2 years ago and I wouldn't be surprised if all three brands had the same stuff in the bottle. (You know, oil.... it's all about marketing.)

FYI

Quakerstate is one of the worst brands of oil out today. If you want one of the best bought oils on the shelf, get Penzoil Platinum. So far on all the tests from the labs, it has done much better than all of the competitors other than Amsoil. Mobil 1 is way down on the list now since they reformulated their oil.

If you want sound advice, I suggest go to Welcome and discuss the oils there.

It isn't the same stuff as tests have shown. Penzoil Plat is much better quality over Quakerstate. This has been discussed on the site above.

Isn't Quakerstate and Penzoil the same company? - Bob Is The Oil Guy

Watch this topic. They are the same company and Penzoil Plat is a different product and much better.

Seriously, do your engine a favor and AT LEAST put some Castrol Edge in there. If you can afford it, Royal Purple is the way to go. If not, consider Motul or Mobil 1.

The claims of Royal Purple being one of the worst oils you can buy are a bit extreme! The article that you linked simply shows that in the test that was conducted Royal Purple did not display any signifigant differences from the other oil it was tested against. Never did they say that it was a bad oil or bad for your vehicle, they only said that many of it's claims were not up to par. It is still a solid oil choice and I've had great results with it in my previous vehicle, so based on my personal preference I say if you are willing to pay for it, use it! But with that in mind going the advantages of Royal Purple are not that signifigant enough that would make it really worth using over another high quality synthetic like Penzoil Platinum. To each his own tho!

I actually JUST got back from getting my oil changed and I used Royal Purple this time! (3k miles oil change) I have a 1500 mile Road trip I'll be making over this weekend and plan to see how things turn out for me with the Royal purple. Next oil change I will be going with the Penzoil Platinum to see how it works out for me as well, and will then be basing my long term oil choice off my own personal experiences after trying both oils in my Z. Thats the only real way to determine whats gonna work for you!

That is just a article. All the actual lab tests are on BITOG and you can find them there where they did not do that well on most cars.

Castrol GTX Dino oil out performed RP and it's not even a synthetic. RP has such high wear, and metals showing in the oil changes vs other oils it is scary.

Just by trying it and saying it did well without a lab test results done on the oil is a bad comparison.

My family has been using Royal Purple lubricants in marine racing applications since the 1980s. It is hardly a hype. It is excellent oil. You're basing your knowledge on a bunch of experts from BP Lubricants and RP doing biased, unscientific tests on eachothers' products.

Do you even know the difference between regular and synthetic oil?

Alexus 05-27-2009 02:11 PM

I am talking from personal experience. Not from what someone on bobtheoilguy.com has told me or imakenews.com.

The actual facts and data from the imakenews.com article were collected from one of BP Lubricants' expert analyzing the Royal Purple product. I don't want to start an argument here but you really need academically approved sources to convince me that Royal Purple is a scam, especially since I've been using it in a 1993 Toyota Supra TT since it was bought by my father in 1994. At 90,000 km everything is still running FLAWLESSLY. No leaks whatsoever, nothing mechanical has been done to the car in nearly 20 years on the road and all it has seen is Royal Purple lubricants.

Personal experience with no lab results of used oil samples? show me some lab tests on used oil samples that show it did well without any high sheering, or metals, let me know. Till then it's just your opinion with nothing backing it.

And how is Jeff_B, a Business Administration graduate from USC who enjoys poker, drums and video games, and who also made some Best Picks for flat-pannel display mounts, digital cameras and PDF readers an academically approved source who has conducted research based on academically approved citations?

Never said it was. Just posted it as he points out why PP comes in 1st in most of peoples opinions. It's the cheapest, but also provides the best UOA's.
