There may be no photos but the instructions/knowledge/reasoning are clear for any 1/2 competent DIY/mechanic ! It just takes courage (or a spare lock) to do the job. I was not prepared to wait for Nissan to dither (and blame me --- again !) so ... job done 2 months ago. I then disconnected the lock and its associated lump of iron as being a real reliability liability: One disastrous immobility is enough. I need the car. The Panasonic microswitches are available from your electronics store if you really need to fix the lock itelf....but I have no faith in any Nissan electronic steering lock, updated or not....so instead of a lock I have a secret fuel cut-off. Any aggressor will get 50 yards down the road and stop. Maybe not as good, but reliable. I also have a master switch, with key, and an aircraft circuit breaker for long term parking. Fritz Fritz |
there are only 7 reports under 2009 and 2010 for this issue on the NHSTA. long way to go before a recall will even be considered with that small number. If the issue occurs report it! In the meantime my Z is on its way and im going to look into these DIY with my mechanic I guess.

2009, 45,000 miles. 2nd time towed to the dealership- other time car went into anti theft mode on it own. Now in 2012 pearlwhite sports/ touring. 4000 miles no problems so far...

Steering Lock
2009 370Z
33,000 miles Steering Lock problem. Key unlocks but will not start. Warranty just ran out last week... $751 with diagnostic charge before taxes. I understand that there was a recall on the on the GT-R for the same problem, and that this issue has affected parts up to revision C of the steering lock. This is a known issue that Nissan needs to address with all costumers. |
2009 38,000 no issue's yet. but all these reported problems have got me wondering if every time i push that little red button is my car going to start!!!
sure makes me glad i bought an extended warranty at 36,000. still i don't won't to be stranded at the wrong time, like there is ever a right time to break down................... good luck all you 09 owners |
If you turn off your car and the yellow key symbol is on, you're screwed. You don't have to wonder if your car will start every time you get in.

If my car is under warranty should I lie to the dealer and get it changed right away? I just bought my car two weeks ago and now I'm nervous because my fob has been less reactive since I bought it. I also checked and my car has the rev B :(

honestly it has very little to do with the fob reception. how about you just get the revD and replace it yourself? :) checck out diy |

Actually, I think I might try it. I guess I'll order the part lol. I just looked at the DIY and it doesn't look like too hard. Pull the old one out put the new one in. Also is revD full proof? |

also you guys have a group outing in chicago area (zmans coordinating cars and coffee). maybe you can hook up with them and have them babysit while you do that and replace clutch helper spring as well? :icon17: should take no more than 30min tops for both. RevD is too new to know its reliability. we know that RevC has been reliable for the most part, but seeing a few failures here and there. not as much as RevA and B. |
For the record, my Rev C failed.
|
my i7 failed as well. :icon17:
|
If my revD fails, I'm trading it in for a 12 model.

Could the angle of how you position the steering wheel make a difference?
