I just had one removed from my hood from a plastic beach chair that fell out out of the rafters in the garage onto my hood. Took it to a Nissan dealership and cost $140 to get fixed.

so this steering lock failure is causing our cars not to start due to faulty part? sorry have not read anything about this. should i go ahead and replace mine in case rite now in case my car doesnt start?

1, read Kenchan's DIY.

2, look under you dash to find out what revision you have.

3, depends on #2. If you're out of warranty and you have revision C or lower, then sure, go ahead and swap it out for the Rev D, see #1 for the procedure.

09 w/86500 on the odo no issues. guess i should peel off the steering column and see which one i have.

No need to peel. Stick your head in the footwell and look up, it's visible without removing anything.

I am hoping someone smart will crack one of these open and figure out how to fix these things with a soldering iron and/or an ISO programmer.

Where are you oh electronics guru wizard of the Z inner workings world?
