For most of you who are saying, "wow, that's still a good deal".....you need to close your mouth. I think you people missed the point by a mile. The OP was excited because its his dream car and his negotiation skill to get a killer price. If it's off by couple hundred, I would see how "that's still a good deal" apply. But we're talking about couple thousand here. How would you feel if someone stick you like that if you buying......say a house. That would be like 25k (proportion comparison) that you have to fork over on the closing date.

My question to the OP is this......Did you get your deposit back?

Sorry to hear that man but don't give up. Go to another dealer.

No, I don't think I'll close my mouth. Yes it's still a good deal. Dealerships/people make mistakes, I do not know if this was the case here or not. If it was a scam and he can prove it of course he should walk, but otherwise he should take a good deal.

I don't understand. You seriously bought parts before having the car?

What good reason do you have for even doing that?

rench 05-22-2009 06:55 AM

Umm... if you actually read, he had the car on order and had paid deposit. So whats wrong with gettin a few hotrod parts while you wait?

I actually agree with the gist of your point (it's the principle of the matter, not the actual dollar amount), but there's no reason to use disrespectful language like "you need to close your mouth." This is a discussion forum, after all. We can disagree with one another without disrespecting each other.

I hope there is nothing wrong with getting performance parts before you have your Z. I have the Stillen CBE and Gen3 CAI's and a set of the Berk HFC's and my car doesn't get here until July.

I probably would not have done this if it weren't for those smooth talker's on this forum - AK, ChrisSlicks, RCZ, SoCal, semtex and wstar. Oh yes, and Josh for making it sooo easy....

It may still be a good deal. But why pay another $700+ on top of the agreed price which was signed on the contract? That's a binding legal agreement. They should deliver when the buyer had put his hard earned money in the play.

Yes, there was a fine print stating things, but does that apply to this specific situation where the dealer dropped the ball somewhere?

My assumption: the dealer didn't want to take the loss by giving the buyer the agreed price. And if the OP walks away, they can still turn around and sell the car for the right price; given the assumption that the dealer made the mistake somewhere. No loss taken, but time, and potential buyers should the OP names them.

Actually, I think he'd have to pay another $1700, not $700. The dealer wanted another $2400, then said they'd be willing to knock off $700 off of that, which still leaves him dishing out another $1700 to get his car.

Thanks. I got that the other way around.

As my rebuttal goes... Why pay another $2400 (or $1700 should the OP takes it) on top of the agreed price? I say no deal here. The OP did his part and was willing to close the deal.

Thanks to all of you and the replies since they have their value. And YES, I was storming mad at the dealership and talked to the general sales manager to no avail. I even went home and shredded my Penfed loan check since I had put their name on it at the dealership.
Maybe you all are right, I should just hang on to the parts and hope that I still can get my Z some day soon.

No, I did not get my $2k back yet as they said their main dealership in Barberton has to issue the check...maybe next Tuesday.

thanks to all

I surely hope that they get you your deposit back at a timely manner. There are plenty of deals to be had, just look around more.

Wishing you the best and better outcome!

See if you can get a hold of the GM at the Main dealership and explain your situation. Tell him you are walking away because of the way you were treated, and are going to buy somewhere else. More than likely he will not be happy with the sub-dealerships treatment of a customer, and will be able to work with you a little more than they could. Tell him you will pay $500 more than original, if they include a couple dealer-installed options (IE tint/clear bra/mats/trunk organizer..etc). That gives them a little more cash on the deal, and you get a little something for your extra $$

like others have said, your deal was WAY under invoice, so if you truly want the Z, something like the above is a good compromise when you compare it to taking your 2k back and going to another dealership to pay more.
