Default Good Security Systems??

Hey all,
I am writing this to gain some info from some of you that may know about good aftermarket security systems for cars... My girlfriend and I parked at a hotel last night, we go outside this AM to find they racked in her window, stole a 700 dollar purse, drivers license, medications, cash, etc.... (Before all of you start talking about why she had a purse in her car, I know, it was stupid, we have already had a conversation about that...). THANK GOD my Z was not touched, even though it was right by her car. I am assuming the thiefs didn't touch my baby because I really didn't have anything out, other than a sweat shirt, and a GPS cord (on the ground, dont think they saw it). Needless to say, the security system failed to go off, I am assuming the scum bag just racked the window and crawled in through the window. It made me realize how easily some systems can be overcome... So, I was wondering if anyone had any info on security systems, their prices, or how good the stock one on the Z is, and any type of recommendations for both me and her, think we are gonna buy two at one time!
Thanks!
Cheers!

first thing i would do it remember to not leave valuables inside the car. A thief will get what they are after even with an alarm.

Not sure if they are compatable with the Z but i had a Viper 2 alarm on my old cobalt and it worked great. Sensitivity was awesome, a leaf fell from a tree and set the alarm off one time. Also if someone tries to steal the car the engine dies. As for the Z, i have a Compustart alarm/remote starter...not installed yet but my buddy has the same system on his cobalt and he said its just as good as the viper alarms.

Is there any type of security mechanism at all built into the Z? (Yeah, I know---read your owner's manual...) Sorry.

yea... if you sit down in the car with the FOB in your back pocket and the alarm button gets pressed, the alarm goes off. Its especially useful for making you look like a ******* when you get back into your car at a gas station, and it takes you 5 mins toget the fob out of your pocket to turn it off.

I have had a Compustart alarm/remote starter system for more than a year. The remote has excellent range. So far no problems. I also have LoJack

I'm a Clifford fan, but both Viper and Clifford are now owned by Directed so some of the accessories available might be interchangeable. Check the list of the available accessories for each and you will find what you are looking for, and then choose the level of system you want add your chosen accessories to:

One of the best accessories I have ever had installed is the Clifford BlackJax, but it can be real pain as valets never seem to get the clue and always play with the switch after being told not to. I have been interrupted during many a meal by an embarrassed valet as I have had to go stop my car from the alarm going off, and it being stopped dead in its tracks. The best was in the middle of the parking ramp blocking both the ingress and egress lanes. (Wonder why he was driving in the middle )

I think the stock system is pretty top notch. Your car does not work without the key fob and there is no bypassing it since its part of the ECU. (There is always a hack but I haven't heard of any....)

The beauty of the stock system is that the wires have not been hacked. One of the biggest PITA of a poorly installed aftermarket alarm system is trying put the car back to original. Excellent installers do little damage; poor installers just f@ck-up everything in their path.

Default Alarm

I have been wondering if installing an aftermarket alarm system is more difficult because of the push button ignition/intellikey system, or does it not effect installation? Sorry I don't know alot about electrical wiring, etc.

Also, I'm aware this sounds borderline ridiculous, but ever since I was a little kid , I wanted an alarm system that made the 3 tone unlock sound. Thanks alot Samuel L. Jackson.......

P.S. Sorry, I know I should have went to the introduction section and said hello. I've been lurking awhile, supposed to get my Z this next week I hope.
