Of course, but depending on disposable income, everyone has a threshold of diminishing returns on just how big a game they bring.

Me personally? I'm considering dumping my G20 for the clean Mid'90's hard-top equipped low-mile Miata one of my friends is selling this spring :)

having a dedicated track car and tracking your car frequently implies a certain threshold of disposable income.

i thought you were getting a 370z?

Well, consider that a front-end on a Viper starts at around $15K for cosmetic damage.

Then consider that it runs 345's out back.

Then consider that qualified labor runs about $150/hr.

It can add up.

About the fastest "cheap" car to track is the C5 Z06. Very durable. Very cheap (except tires). Comparatively.

However, if you have the money and can drive well enough to make use of it, I have heard (never driven one) that the Viper is a helluva fun car...as long as you are smooooth.

The Gen IV Vipers are the best. The Gen III's had a crappier rear-end. Gen IV got the TR6060 and better diff. The '08 is the bargain, with the '09 having a few tiny kinks worked out, and the '10 being the pinnacle. Viper got better each year, regarding mechanical aspect.

At least, this is all I gathered when doing a ton of research on them when I was considering one over my Z06.

Good news then:

Z labor is $130 now and tires are the same price. $15k front end is all part of crashing which I hope never to do.

Thanks

Separate question about handling

Separate question about handling. How does Viper handle tight turning mountain roads? Does it need a track to shine? Will my Z keep up without a straightaway?

Here is my daily drive:

Just fyi.... the viper is one of the most expensive cars in terms of upkeep. Now thats with just cars that see the raod on weekends. I couldnt imagine what it would cost when your puting a years worth of abuse in one sesh.
But then again I am the one to worry about that sort of thing because I dont have the cash to even buy the car but mat not everyone is in the same boat as me...
I tell you if I had the cash tho... no doubt about it, upkeep would be worth the heads I turn passing by hahaha!

You pay $2200+ for tires for your 370z?

Snakes709 12-16-2011 02:43 AM

what kind/year of viper were you looking at? I been in a 94 gts and a 09 acr, damn things are a monster. Like someone already said the T56 tranny is amazing. Only thing that sucks is the amount of spark plugs you gotta change...lol.

I say do it.

$1680. I priced the Vipers at about the same. Even if I was wrong, $500 on this vehicle will mot make or break the deal.

The deal just got broken when I saw the 36.5" head room. I'm nearly 6'3" and with a helmet I can't imagine fitting in. Unless two inches can be taken off the bottom of the seat. Can it?

I had forgotten all the near concussive blows to the head I received in my 300ZXtt on a few violent turns, with only 37.5" of head room. The 370 with the extra inch or so eliminated this. But with the helmet I need to move my seat around to an uncomfortable position just to look level forward.

I dont know how you fit in the z with a helmet. I'm only 6'1" and can't fit with one.

The viper felt like it had more room to me.

I fit just fine in the Z at 6'5" :P Do you have a booster seat or something in there? I do look forward to getting race seats that are lower than stock though.

Yes they are quick cars but as track cars they are very expensive to maintain and prep. You need to have deep pockets to run one of these cars on track.

Look at Mike's stable...I don't think he would give a damn considering what his wife is driving. :happydance:
