Who wins? 370z or VW R32?

I know a kid who loves to brag and lie and talk a lot of crap. He says his R32 VW would smoke my 370z in a 1/4 mile and all around. Please tell me this is some sort of joke and if you have any information on this that would also be great!

frost 11-18-2011 07:45 PM

Most here get low 13s in the 1/4, and the r32 gets 13.6 from car and driver

Pretty much all there is to it...the R32 definitely won't kill the Z

VQStryker 11-18-2011 07:56 PM

1/4 Z win, road cours/auto X.... eh who knows :)

R32 can definitely win at carrying crap.

Masa 11-18-2011 08:05 PM

What model year .:R was it? The Mk4's ran low to mid 14's and the Mk5's could do high 13's (on a really good day) if I recall correctly.

It wasn't to burn you, and I should have elaborated. He was only asking about a quarter mile, so throwing auto x in there starts other debates. And why stop there, what if it's cold versus hot, what if the wind is blowing really hard and our aero dynamics come into play, etc, etc.

Also, I think it's obvious that in a auto x, it's all about the driver (assuming the cars aren't WORLDS apart). A z could beat a GTR with the right/wrong drivers.

steveg78 11-18-2011 08:15 PM

R32 wins for looking like a sneaker mobile for teenie boppers.

Nizmo0533 11-18-2011 08:17 PM

GTR R32? lol

ok  and I understand

Skeeterbop 11-18-2011 08:48 PM

Assuming both cars are stock and drivers are of equal skill/familiarity with the cars, I would say the R32 doesn't stand a chance if you look at just the spec sheets:

Nissan 370Z: 332hp, 270lb/ft, 3232lb Curb weight, RWD
VW Golf R32:250hp, 236lb/ft, 3457lb Curb weight, AWD

The R32 may have the edge off the line due to the AWD, but after that I don't see it standing a chance. But the best way to find out.... Go to the strip and race each other!

tranceformer 11-18-2011 10:14 PM

Yeah, I was about to say, don't the R32's come with 240hp stock? They seem like nice cars but raw hp comparison its no contest.

Red__Zed 11-18-2011 10:43 PM

Z has almost everything over the R32 except low-traction situations.

jaedub 11-19-2011 12:22 AM

not a chance. A friend of mine has a r32. Its no where near the standards of a 370z (He even admit it). Our car has more HP, Torque, and weighs less than r32. Now given those variables, how can it be faster than 370z in any possible way? Your friend (or some punk) is just blinded by a ignorance of his ego.

You hit the nail right on the head. This kid is the biggest punk ever and thanks everyone for the responses, it seems quite clear here there is no match against the 370z once again.

Justin1686 11-19-2011 10:38 AM

My friend has a r32, did a tune, with only an intakd on the car, gained 40hp, and 34torque. The car still isnt giving its full potential from the factory. But again, like somr have said, equal driver, id still take our z in the 1/4.

Fast or not, the R32 isn't sexy like a Z.

If you were a real friend to him, you would get him an intervention. It is obvious when people make wild assertions like these that they are either under the influence of methamphetamine or or gravely mentally ill.

Must be meth; makes him feel like he is faster than he is.

IMO the R32 exhaust definitely sound sexy.

osbornsm 11-19-2011 05:37 PM

I moved from an R32 VW to the 370z and i'll tell you the 370z is faster in a straight line... and when driven correctly the corners as well. HOWEVER, the R32 is soooooooooo easy to throw through a corner that you get spoiled easily.

So the VW is easy in the corners AWD.

But in a race... the z is just faster.

:happydance:

Chan Chee Hoe 11-19-2011 07:54 PM

The old V.W.R32 is not that fast, but the latest Golf R,has almost the same pick up[claimed 0-100km/h in 5.7secs,Top speed 250km/h],with our Z auto, but only a 2L turbo.

NYBladeZ 11-20-2011 12:25 AM

Dear God, come on Z owners lets have a bit more confidence. Golf R32 doesn't stand a chance. He is underpowered and overweight bc of the AWD. If you are a competent driver you'll get him just fine. Since you should be doing it on a track with safety personnel on hand, if you want an extra edge, drop the spare and jack but be mindful of the launch.

Mind you, the R32 Golf does not respond well to mods. Not saying they don't put out results when done up but they are reliability nightmares, the car came maxed out the tranny and drivetrain were not meant to handle more. So in the end he has a heavier car with less power and less room to grow and modify. The Z has no similar shortcomings unless your a 7AT owner looking for forced induction.

:iagree:

TypeOne 11-20-2011 09:37 AM

I hate Golfs. The R32 was a VW fanboy's wet dream... they are heavy, slow compared to other cars with similar power and fugly.

DarkZide 11-20-2011 12:51 PM

No contest for the Z.

G37sHKS 11-20-2011 01:02 PM

I dont have a 370z but a G37 coupe

My friend used to have R32 and I killed him easillyyyy.. he sold his R32 and now he got him self a 2011 IS-F

he didnt have a chance with his R32
not from rolling nor from standing..

So imagine 370z

PS: my car was stock at that time ;)

NYBladeZ 11-20-2011 02:11 PM

and how the the G match up with the IS-f

370ZNISMO#704 11-20-2011 02:18 PM

I would love to murder this guy for you my Nismo is 100 pounds lighter then a stock one and I have 315 at the rear with just genIII's and no tune it would be fun lol
I kill modded sti's by two to three cars role on and one to two cars from dead stop but all out I hit 160 about seven cars lengths before one. And with a good driver a stock sti does a 13.1 with perfect conditions.

NYBladeZ 11-20-2011 02:30 PM

You're 100lbs lighter than a stock Nismo or a non Nismo Z? I hope you mean a stock Nismo, if so I'd love to know where you lost the weight, I've done just about all I can. However sorry bud you're actually heavier than a non Nismo Z.

370ZNISMO#704 11-20-2011 02:49 PM

Hmmm I weighted mine and it was 2180 around there I gutted the rear dropped the muffler.

Did you mean to say 3180? That would be much more believable.
--edit--
Going by pervious posts, I'm going to go with the typo and assume you are at 3180

370ZNISMO#704 11-20-2011 03:01 PM

Yes lol sorry hahah typo
But on another note how would a track car like a nismo that has no options to stay light weight be heavier then a 370 that has options like leather and heated seats etc. I just don't see it the bumpers and wing don't add 200 pounds and the sway control in front and rear maybe 13 pounds together. Someone needs to pull specs and post.
Also that weight was done at a truck stop so not to sure oh accurate it was but that was me not in the car

Skeeterbop 11-20-2011 03:30 PM

It depends on the packages that the car has. I think (don't quote me on this) that the Nismo is heavier due to the extra bits it has that others don't. I'm not sure how it is compared to a fully loaded touring model, but I'm willing to bet the base or base w/ sport would be slightly lighter.

370ZNISMO#704 11-20-2011 05:42 PM

Hmmm I'm super curious now because it's just body parts and the exhaust and that's even lighter the stock I think I'm gonna research it and get back lol

NYBladeZ 11-20-2011 05:46 PM

you also have additional bracing and a slightly different suspension setup. Don't fret though, its really not that big of a deal. In my current setup I've taken just about allt he weight off you can do without going into super light wheels and rotors and seats. It's a noticeable difference. I definitely need an aftermarket suspension setup, she's light as a butterfly and frankly its a little scary.
