I've heard of seeing red....

...but why do I see green when I look out my rear view mirrors at night? At first I thought the guy had green accent lights in his head lights.

Default I've heard of seeing red....

...but why do I see green when I look out my rear view mirrors at night? At first I thought the guy had green accent lights in his head lights. When the second car pulled up I did the double check through the rear hatch and it was normal but in the rear view mirror the lights looked green. Is this some sort of feature?

aut0-dimming rearview mirror, a very nice feature for the touring model.

Yup, the auto dimmer. Cars like the Range Rover and high end Jeeps have their outside mirrors like this as well. They are awesome. I have had these in my Infinitis forever, but I didn't get a Touring Z, so I have the manual "flipper" mirror. It's amazing how such small things can make such a big difference.

Oh, and by the way, if you have Homelink built in, that's the pride of Milwaukee! Johnson Controls! I actually wonder if they make that whole dimmer/opener assembly here. I think they do. Go BrewTown! (A little Milwaukee work sitting on your window.)

I find the Z's auto-dimming mirror to be overly sensitive compared to my previous WRX with auto-dimming. But either way, it's super nice to have it as it makes rear-viewing much easier on the eyes.

you mean idle curiosity? :P

i believe it's a system that uses a light sensor on the bottom of the rear view mirror to detect how much light is hitting the mirror. there should be another sensor somewhere (the front?) that determines ambient light conditions, so the internal computer can determine the difference between the two sensor outputs. the difference in the two readings is, then, the light coming from the car behind you.

not sure the exact relation, but the difference in sensor readings adjusts the voltage that passes through a gel-like mesh in the mirror itself, which is an electrochromic material. that pretty much dims or lightens the mirror as needed.

sorry, it's not a detailed explanation, but hopefully that gives you the jist of things.
